But what kind of signal does it give? I wonder how much stuff I miss by not digging the low end of the scale. Whenever I take a little time to check I seem to end up with nothing but foil and pull tabs.

Mine was around mid 50 to mid 60.... I and I didn't realize that I had actually pulled out two! I though one was a 1 cent piece.

Here are the last two trips that I had to the beach. Interesting thing about that shilling is that I gave it to some kid who was watching, then he lost it and came back and asked for another one! lol so I gave him a 5 cent piece. well when I went back today I found it! lol

here are the pics:

All my non-silver 3p's go in the junk copper pile. Once the pile's big enough I'm going to fire up the furnace and make a 1kg copper ingot. Might try and drop a nice looking Victoria penny onto the top of the ingot as it cools and hope I get the timing right in order to fuse it into the ingot.

Now that would be cool. I was thinking of covering the floor of my hot rod with all the pennies I have found.
What other things can ya do with pennies etc?

That would be awesome!.......and time consuming. I once had the idea of making one from key rings for the chch fetish ball but after some research, i found out that three days would not be long enough to make one lol

That is a really good idea oroplata, do you have an ingot mold or have you made one yourself? also what sort of torch are you using to melt them?

well here are some of my new finds! Finally found silver with my new f2! took a while but I had to go to a new spot to find it. I am still trying to figure out the id numbers and I have got some down packed but the silver id's I am still working on. The 3d that I did find was by accident because I had 39/40 id tuned out but I found out that that is the id for a silver 3d! But when it is about 4 inches down it reads at mid 50 or so... good to know. also found an old lock cylinder and a lump of lead... don't know what it was doing in the middle of a park...

here's the pic:

Congrat's on the silver threepence. Our old pre-dec "silvers" have only a 50% silver content so they ring up lower then similar sized silver coins found in Aust or the US etc. When you find an English one (pre 1933 coins) then it will ring up higher.

Best thing for somebody learning their machine is to dig everything above iron. After that most junk can be picked up on by its tone instead of discrimination. On my machines the NZ 3d's are within the same VDI section that gold rings also lay........
