Yeah MK I got there a bit before Goldnut and wandered around the whole park, through the middle where dogs are trained and also at the other gate up towards blockhouse bay, found nothing good at all. Where do you detect usually .. parks.. beaches? etc.

Nice, rings and a shilling. you would be someone in the know.. since you're in the te tahi club and also sell detectors, how many people would you estimate detecting in Auckland?

I wish I knew.
Must be quite a few I reckon. My guess woulld be several hundred.
There are over 1000 members on Paydirt but that is NZ wide and a few international. Why do you want to know?

Just doing the sums / analysing competition in my head. I don't really find "great" stuff in the parks.. think others get there first so thinking of doing a lot more permission to hunt land type of hunts or finding little suburban parks that are out of the way and hard to get at like Tony Segedin.

Wasn't going to hunt today but powercut happened so down to local park and damn glad I did, seemed funny the amount of $1 and $2 aussie coins at the park nearby, even gave a couple to some kids at the park who were following me around. The big find of today though was under a tree, I missioned on to dig it from under the roots then was disappointed thinking it was a kids play sheriff star. Got it home and cleaned it and it turned out to be a World War 2 Medal!, known as 'the 1939 - 1945 star' ... rapt as.

Wow they look awesome MK, I'm assuming this medal was a very common type.. from what I could tell it was for anyone who served over 180 days.

Yeah the set of Dads was given to all returning Kiwi's after WW2.
I dont remember why but he did not actually receive them till some years later

Had about an hours hunting this morning at an awesome site, only covered one tiny part.. this thing just keeps giving out the goodies.. 6 silvers in an hour then had to stop because ground was like concrete and had to 'go see the smelly flower at the domain' with the mrs.

Also went out with Goldnut the other weekend and found a few threepences, (the aussie one I found somewhere else) but the 1892 british one was a nice find.
