I asked the council and they said it was fine but I may not of been talking to someone up to spec on the place as heaps of people say it's a no dig zone.

As far as I am aware the Auckland domain is a Heritage site. I'm not sure if that applies to the whole domain or just certain parts.

I just looked on the auckland council web site and it looks to me like the heritage site refers to the winter gardens only. I have a friend in council I can call on tomorrow.

Went for a hunt yesterday with Dale and found my second gold ring! a nice little 9 carat ladies ring with 2/3 stones left in it as one's missing. (be nice if they were diamonds). Also a silver shilling.. to say Auckland has no silver coins I've found 4 nz sixpence, an Aussie sixpence and now this shilling in the last week. Dale also managed a 3pence yesterday too.

Ok so had a nice little hunt yesterday until the rain thunderstormed me out, this one little patch of grass kept giving me gold coins, I think I pulled at least $23 from one tiny area. Anyway pretty happy with the big silver mens ring, it's the first ring I've found that fits my fingers.. silver coins were nice too.

If anyone is up for the challenge help me identify the Chinese coin, I want to know how old it is. The back mark is Boo Yuwan with a dot above, the front of the coin is read top, bottom, right, left and says ??? Yuang ??? Pao.

You had a good day.
Those goldie patches seem harder to find these days.
Congrats on the silver ring. Is it stamped?

Yeah I really want to start finding more silver coins, was thinking Tony segedin may be a good place, finding little out of the way spots is how I think I'm going to find them. What about Tui Glen? have you been there.. at the historic research centre they had photos of picnics there in 1890's .. or have you got any personal pointers for me MK?

Your right about the out of the way spots. Hard to find but they are there I reckon.
Tui Glen was remodled a while back so may have a lot of fill now although I have not had a look yet.
You could always try some beaches too.

Afternoon hunt with Goldnut today, pretty happy on the sixpence but the Chinese silver ring is strange, it gives a silver reading and has a Chinese symbol hallmark on inside band. Asked the Chinese caretaker at the site and he said it reads 'pure silver'.

Two silvers and spendables.
Well done.

Good move.
I have tried Craigavon a few times for very little result.
