Nice finds Chrispy, especially like that silver plated penny. I see you keep your finds well guarded.

Couple of hunts this week. First was out at a wee country domain for a couple of hours (first pics) then a hunt with Ericd this after noon at the "The Bushy Spot" Found a couple of unworked areas and scored a nice Britt half crown and a handful of other silvers making up a full house. Also got a silver plated lion head badge and a 925 silver bangle as well as the normal pennys and half pennys and trash.

Just googled the lion badge and it turns out to be a military lion head slouch hat clip. This was worn on the side of the hat to hold up the brim to make rifle drills easier. Only thing with mine is the tongue clip that comes out of the lions mouth is broken.

Ohh mate, THAT is simply stunning! What an incredible piece of our military history to be able to rescue and preserve. I'm so stoked for you. Who cares that it's not in perfect condition.......it's an original Lion's Head slouch hat hook and that's all that really matters. Well done.

Last weekend I answered a call for some coins by Trev The Hatter and took a bunch of stuff over to Westport for him to load onto his Etrac. I had planned on detecting the local parks etc but the weather was rotten and I only got out a couple of times and even then found didly squat. Local parks have been built up with sand and I couldn't get on to any targets. Ended up just sitting round chatting with Trev till the wee small hours before hitting the sack in his sweet wee camper. Half way through chatting ole Trev dropped a bombshell on me and said I could take home his Minelab Etrac to try out for a while. To say I felt priviledged was an under statement. Thanks heaps Trev your a bloody legend. One of the deals though is to get out more and post every thing decent that I find with it.
Well Ive been out a few times now with the first little swing at a wee domain on the way home from Westport inbetween downpours lol. Got in bout 30 mins for three silvers so will definatly head back there. Got a 1874 and 1837 shilling and an nz sixpence. The rest came from two parks that we have hammered and were 7-12 inches deep. Realy loving the extra depth and clarity the etrac has over my gold bug and the discrimination is very good too. Still taking a bit to get used to tho. The last pic is from a wee country community hall I stopped at on the way home from work today that surprised me with the age of the coins but the lack of silvers. Got another "H" half penny which now takes my tally to 3 H half pennys and 4 H pennys.
Again thanks heaps Trev.

Hi All

As we all know Detectors talk to us. Most of the time while we are detecting. But my Etrac, seems to have a mind of its own. I turned it on one night in my humble abode to have a wee play. And she said to me, " I want to go to Christchurch" you don't take me anywhere, exciting, I want to go to Hagley Park and all those neat other domains and secret places in Canturbury. I like to work and I like to find things. And you Trev aren't doing diidly squat with me. All I do is sit on your couch watching TV. Well you cant argue with an Etrac. When Chrispy turned up, she kinda glanced at him, then blushed. Well what could I do. It was love at first site. So off to Christchurch she went. For a holiday.

I can see the smile on her face, seems she is beeping in all the right places for Chrispy. Go girl go.

More to come tomorrow. Im a Carrot Dangler"

Cheers Trev aka " The Hatter"

Got out for an afternoon hunt on Friday out at a couple of north Canterbury domains. Did well at one domain but the other had been worked over with fresh plugs all over the place. Only managed a penny and a sixpence from that domain.
Really loving this Minelab Etrac. Starting to get the hang of the different numbers and tones and the depth is very good.
Happy hunting all.

Well finally got my computer back from repair man today so now I can upload my recent finds and stop being a spectator just looking on my phone lol.
Been out on a couple of trips with Ericd and No8 but have just taken pics of the good stuff. Still got plenty of pennys incl a nother nice 1875 Heaton penny and $22 in spendys.
The best finds were probably the silver junior red cross badge and the two S. Hague Smith tokens which I found at the same park but nearly 100 mtrs apart. The two brittish florins were a nice surprise as well as the 1835 shilling which was only two inches down.

Yup all Etrac finds. Really got the hang of this machine now. One of the brittish sixpence was 13-14 inches down and signal was clear as.

Big thanks to The Hatter for letting me use it.

Hi All

Bloody marvelous finds Chrispy. Eric might get the silvers, but you get the class stuff. Lol. Ole number eight does pretty well to.

And yep Metal. All done with the Etrac. Chrispy has got his head around that machine. Me,well still trying to get my head around the CTX3030.

Its a bit of a wonder machine, mind you it has to be for the bucks you pay to get one. More or less got the GPS function worked out. Done a few geohunts, geotrails, add waypoint, add find point etc. Sadly just on the local streets. And not actually detecting.

Chrispy and I have a major mission. (eh Eric) can't say to much, loose lips sink ships lol. But you know Metal. The GPS will be invaluable there.

Oh I just love Google Earth. And Minelab exchange. And I even bought a Magellan GPS as a back up. Once we find the site of the Spanish Galleon, Santa Domicus, blown off course in the 1700's. Chrispy and I will be showering in gold dublooms. Buggar the silvers Eric, Chrispy and I will shower in gold.

Cheers Trev aka " The Hatter"
