yea funny thing is that I nearly put it in me trash pocket. it was covered in dirt and I didn't think much of it but the fact it was hinged fascinated me so I keeped it in me goodies pocket. wasn't till I got home and cleaned that I saw it was hallmarked. nice surprise.

Just been out for a night hunt with Number8 and Foiled Again. Cheers lads. Heres some pics of me bounty.
Got a nice fired snider bullet and a fired 32 rimfire bullet at little hagley before we all hooked up at north hagley.
The two hat pins are my favorites and the condom lid is a first for me.
The pocket spill was about 8-9" deep. A very faint signal on the GBP.

Heres some pics from my last 3 hunts. The first 2 are from solo hunts in hagley and the 3rd was from yesterday with Foiled Again.
The silver ring was about 8" deep and looks to be hand made. Not sure what the stone in it is. Has no hallmarks to date it.
Didn't find much yesterday with Foiled Again until I was nearly back at the truck when I popped out the first of the 44-40 live bullets right by the road!!
I thought Id have a wee look around that area and found another one about 5mtrs away, again right by the road. Crazy to think what they were doing back in the day with guns in the middle of town????

Awesome finds

US Navy Hatpin is a US Marine Corp badge, worn on the collars usually. Crown badge is a Major's rank generally, in a Commonwealth country. Worn on the epaulettes on the shoulder or armsleeve

Had a great afternoon/evening hunt today at hagley park in an area I hadn't been to before. Did really well in the silver department with possably a hint of gold on the wee silver shield. The buckle thing was a great find but I wish it had the snake part of it. Still on the bucket list.
Best find of the day was the little medal. Its a 1882 New Zealand international exhibition medal awarded for "Best & Cheapest is Bartletts Jewellery Exhibit" Looks like it was silver plated. Way cool.

Mate.........very impressed! Some very cool finds in amongst yer pot-o-treasure. Just love that wee shield with the hint of gold, and the awesome little NZ fern badge. For me though, personally I love the Exhibition medallion.....can never get enough of that truly iconic Christchurch Exhibition memorabilia.

HOLY CRAP WHAT A WEEK OF FIRST FINDS!!! Went out for two hunts this week.
First hunt was by my self at first then hooked up with Number 8 and Foiled Again for a night mission. Fun night, cheers. Before we meet up I was at another wee park and low and behold out popped my first GOTHIC FLORIN. dated 1874 and in good nik. Very stoked. Also got a nice old penny and half penny.
Second hunt was with Number 8. Great night mate thanks for the company. Got a few silvers and an antique looking 925 silver ring that got eaten by the mower but there were 4 absolute mint finds. Firstly a 3 ring .577 snider bullet that had been fired and hit something solid. Second was a large token (bigger than a penny) with T.W.Gourlay & Co Christchurch importers of kitcheners on one side and on the other Economy House High Street.
Thirdly another token the same size with Thomas Stoke Maker, Melborne on one side and on the other a picture of a crest with a kangaroo on one side and a emu on the other under a rising sun and a banner underneath with Victoria 1862 round the edge.
But the crazy find for the night was a tiny wee copper coin the size of a threepence that had both of us totally stumped. It was 10-11" deep.
You can just make out a seated britiania on one side just like a penny and on the other side a portrait facing left.
Turns out to be a Third Farthing 1827. These were only minted for this year only and for use in Malta as they were still part of the commonwealth.
WAY FREAKIN COOL MAN!!!

Just a few pics of my last couple of hunts. Have had a broken foot for a wee while so its great to be back out again. All these finds are from the same area in the same park which is astounding. Found my oldest silver which was the 1816 britt sixpence in fairly good condition and a nice wee 9ct gold ring and beaut sterling silver cross. Also a nice condition 1902 commemorative medal.
The strangest find though is the 1919 britt half crown which appears to be brass. Its stamped exactly the same as the 1916 sample but is thinner and weighs 4 grams less and is in poor condition. I googled it but cant find anything, mind you Im fairly computer illiterate.
Any ideas would be sweet.

Excellent finds there Chrispy.
The brass HC is a bit of a puzzle. Souvenir maybe?

Very nice finds Chrispy, specially dig that 1816 sixpence. Congrats on the GOLD find too.
Was watching a show the other day and it showed some scale weights that looked like coins, penny type coins from memory and i think they were brass. Maybe its a 4 gram weight.

Interesting you say that as Number 8 found a standard scale weight not that far away. Could be a novelty scale weight. thanks

Hey mate, massive congrats on the 1816 bullhead....lovely coin.
It would be so cool if that brass coin did turn out to be a novelty weight.....and in the context of where you dug it, I guess its possible.

Got out for a very short hunt last night before the rain sent me packing but still managed some cool finds. Same area Ive been doing for a while now and the treasures still keeps popping out. First was the wee guilded nurse button hole pendant then the 1866 sixpence which was about 9-10" deep, just a very faint signal. Next was the lead button looking thing which Im thinking may be a Victorian dress weight??? Pulled a few 1 & 2 cents then the rain started. About to pack it in when I got a screaming 88-90 on the display but only 4-5" deep. Usually these are rusty bottlecaps but I still dig them anyway as we all know that big silver rings the same tones. Well I was gobsmacked to see a mint 1919 britt half crown laying on its flat staring back at me from the bottom of only a 4" deep hole. They are still out there.
