Lol..."ole number8 " certain does do ok thanks very much mate. Five hundred (500) silvers and seven (7) sov's (four full and three half) in 2014 was a pretty good SILVER & GOLD hit rate for this townie!
I must admit though TH, that I have enjoyed watching Chrispy work the magic with your Etrac...it's a pretty awesome machine alright. I very nearly bought one instead of my T2 SE but thought it a bit too technical for my limited number of hunting hours at that point in time. The T2 has served me pretty darn well tho, and I believe I have pretty much mastered it's various settings and abilities to the max.
I'm definitely thinking that the Etrac is my next step in the detecting evolutionary scale. There is no doubt after witnessing the Etrac in action, that it goes a good 3-4 inches deeper than the T2 SE.
Still, whilst it keeps getting me the goodies, my faith is still strong with the mighty T2 SE and that's good enough for me for now.

GL & HH.

Got out for a short 3 hour hunt at a country domain on the way home yesterday and had some good finds. Got another 1876 H penny and a Zimbabwe $1 1980. Also found an object that stumped me for a bit until the builder in me kicked in. it was a brass pivot hinge for a old wooden fold out ruler. Got 8 silvers incl a tidy 1883 shilling with a lot of detail left.

Hi All

Oh dear dear me Chrispy. Your line up of penny's. Actually looks like a fossilized turd. But it certainly has stood the passage of time well.

I would say human as it has some girth and width. But I ain't that great on finds identifying.

However as usual, with you a short hunt gets the greatest finds. Lol.

Been super busy with work at mo but got a couple of hunts in recently. A short hunt with Ericd the other night in the rain with one of the half crowns the aussie 3d and the silver thimble being the stars of that hunt. The other was a day trip with Ericd and Number 8 out at a couple of country domains today. Managed a full house of silvers today which was pretty cool. Another cool find was the two CAC 303 shells dating 1944, one of which is a live blank.

ETRAC FINDS GOLD!!!!
Went out on a hunt with Ericd last night to a wee city park I hadn't been to before. Found a lot of old Vicky pennys and silvers incl the worn 1879 half crown. A couple of real cool finds were the NZ Riflemans badge (a first for me) the printers die which just happens to be a "C" and the strip of silver. I researched the hallmarks and it looks to be a London mark with a "g" dating it to 1820-1825 with makers initials K&T. It was folded up when I found it. I can only assume it was maybe wrapped around the top of a walking cane or something similar.
But my best find came on the way back to the car in the form of a 10k gold ring. WOOHOO.
Ring weighs 5g but got well munted by a mower by looks of it.

I'm Speechless. What great bloody finds you rascal. Miss Etrac probably has a greater smile than you. Do Detectors smile lol.
Wait till I let you have a little play with the CTX3030. But she certainly won't be leaving home lol. Come spring you and I are going to find the golden horseshoe. And for those that wonder , what is a golden horseshoe. Well back in the 1890's a well known gold miner devised a way to stop being robbed by nz highwaymen. He got a hollowed up horseshoe made up, at a bush foundry. When he had enough gold to take to the Bank, a horse trip of several miles. He had the gold melted and poured into the hollowed out horseshoe. And then he nailed it on the horses hoof.

And of course if he was held up, well his gold was safe. But one day on the track to the bank, his horse threw the shoe. He never found it. I know the track he used and the rough location. As he mentioned in his dairy, his horse developed a limp around the 10 mile So Chrispy and I have a mission, " To Find the Golden Horseshoe" . Thats why he needed some practice with the Etrac. So its gunna be Minelab Etrac and CTX3030 in search of " The Golden Horseshoe" . Should be about 50 golden ounces if we find it.

50 ounces you say. I am surprised the limp didn't start at mile 0.

Got out for a short hunt today at a couple of inner city parks. First park I went to was a total bust with only a 2 NZ pennys found. Second park however gave up plenty of treasures for just over an hours work. Very happy. The St John Cadet badge is silver plate as is one of the rings. Got really excited pulling out another ring as it was all shiny and gold but turned out to be gold plated. Pocket knife was a cool find too.

Out for a night hunt with Ericd and Number 8 last night in the frost lol. Found a few spendys and heaps of 2 cent coins but still managed a few little gems.
A couple of gold plated jewellery items and a mint 3 ring .577 snider bullet. Interesting find was a Spear and Jackson handle rivet. These were mounted on the handles of there handsaws and helped to hold the blade on.
Also got a few nice silvers and a little USA one cent or as the yanks call them a wheat penny.
Happy hunting
