The snake buckle is pre wwi and im not sure which country it belongs to. Together with the old time cross, belt parts and the like, i assume we stumbled across a pre wwi military gathering on a small beach. May have been leaving or they may have arrived here, not sure as i cant id the snake buckle which is the biggest giveaway. Did NZ military use these buckles in ww2 i wonder? Best coins here were no help for a date. 1855 shilling, 1862 ch-ch trade token, 1945 3p, usa 1 cent 19--.
Th uzi and the 1911 are made from a cardboard cut out pack. Aquired from the good ol two buck shop.
.

Hi Shane,
I think the snake buckle is WWI vintage. I have one as well and sure I found somewhere on the net that they were WWI.

Hi Metalkiwi. I had a look around and was amazed at how widely used they were. Belt buckles and rifle strap buckles. Going back to the american civil war and other countrys militaria leading up to wwi. After that im not sure. Couldnt find my pattern.
Awesome find, really happy.

Hi Creamer, this might help. Best site I found on the snake belt.

http://www.rulen.com/4f/snake.htm

Your snake buckle could go back to 1850s.

Cheers for that Tonz. I hope to recognise this one at some stage as it's got me thinkin now. A rough guess is that it's a NZ issue pre-wwi waist belt buckle.

Two months later.

After a two month break there was no stopping me hitting the nearest beach for a hunt last sunday. Suffering cronic md withdrawl i was keen to find anything. Didnt take long to pull some coin so all was good. Now, wheres that fossicking log book, ah hear we go.

Trip #93. The nearest beach. 1 goldie, 6 coins all up and a bullet head.

...there was no stopping me hitting the nearest beach

Heaps of birds, not much GOLD.

Could see our page slippin of the radar so i thought i better say something.
Still havnt managed the doubtless bay trip but its not far away i hope. The new move out to the countryside is neally 10k's from town so its made fossicking a little slower. Crisyboy is coming up and he has some nice GOLD finds to see.
So not much to report although the bird life out here is truelly awesome. Tui's, Californian quail, kingfishers, hawks, a large male pheasant (yum), Eastern rosellas, alsorts, and there is a Grey Heron population nesting in the high trees on the boundary. And right now a big hawk is attacking some ducks over yonder, GOLDEN.

Crisyboy's GOLD.

Some old and new GOLD finds. Unfortunately the bracelets were not. our mate pat the jeweller came over to inspect the goodies.
As for the new finds, Theres a diamond in the love-heart. The bent ring has mega hallmarks, 22c 19th century. A rose GOLD 9c ring and the mean as ring with nice red stone that seems to have a special feel to it as it has been rebuilt to last another day and looks european.

If I had found that beautiful old ring my lady would have had it quick on her finger and would have refused to take it off.
