For sure. When the Pohutakawa trees start to flower - that means the snapper are in. Generally this is between now and early Xmas.

Thought i found the big badboy GOLD ring.

TRIP # 101

With the SE winds blowing a plenty i opted out of my old 50 k spot which i was itchin to go back to, and went back to the other side of the bay instead where previously Crisyboy and i had done well with 9 rings in total recently. This next find was a classic.
We got to the spot and i got straight out of the car as the tide was nearly all but in. Walked onto the scene turn detector on swipe ding ding and oh, a ringpull, dig dig and wammo, a GOLD ring!
Heavily encrusted beyond repair. 30 stones and remnants of the thick GOLD plating (so close but no cigar). I had to take it home to clean to realise that it was not solid but a nice find all the same. Anyhow, next hit a ringpull signal again, was an old big 50 cent piece, next dozen or so ringpull signals again were actually ringpulls!
1 coin all up and a ring.

...(so close but no cigar)
UserPostedImage

I have found about 28 rings and one of them was GOLD.

Remnants of the GOLD plating.

Throw this pic in just because.

All in all between Crisyboy and I - we have found 17 rings this last month with Crisyboy taking 5 in one trip beating my best of 4 some while ago. Some pics.

This end of the beach is closer to where the fisherman hang out. The tide is high and the SE winds, which have been provailing for over a month, have pushed the gravel and shell high up on the top of the beach. And right on the coin line too.. the bonus being that its exposed material down before the original coin line ie; all the rings weve been finding there.

A few finds.

Trip #102

Just a few finds the last trip. Spoke to some long time locals down at the spot and they said that the sea/tide is corroding away the dirt under the big old trees there. Closer examination they were right. This explains the replenished supply of coins i keep finding in the same spot.
7 coins all up.

Better get out and find something.

Trip #103

End of the road. 1 coin all up.

Trip #104

Not finding much at the end of the road so i made the trip to the other side of the bay on a mission to find something postable. Instant success as my first hit was a 1960 NZ penny, my first one at this spot. Im fairly sure Crisyboy found one here before including the 1860ish ChCh trade token. Nothing more this end of the beach so i headed to the previous glory lane back towards the middle. 3 more coins, a broke up wristwatch and heaps of space junk as i swept over a section heading down the beach towards the water. Mid way i found a wee silver toe ring sitting just under the surface and it had been there for a while as it had tarnished black. Im thinking this is the first beach ring ive found that wasnt up in the coin line. Neat.
A 1960 penny, 4 coins all up and a silver toe ring.

..and heaps of space junk.

Crisyboy finds finds.

Always good when Crisyboy comes up with his finds. This time a GOLD ring that broke into pieces. Some 1800's coins and some cool rocks and gemstones.
Also while he was here he went through my throwout pile and found an old piece of jewellry. Some sort of 4 band pendant id say. I gave it a scrape and its yellow. More than likely brass.
Headin down to his place tonite for a big 24hr fossick.

...GOLD ring that broke into pieces.

Gidday

Did you look in the cracks amongst the papa stone? Coins and other treasures get trapped in those spots. They can be a real hot spot

For sure Kiwisouth. This is Chrisyboys hot spot. I walked straight on there and found a top 1916 silver, or was it 1902, anyhows that was jammed in the hard clay base just sitting there near the top of the beach. Lucky find at his spot. Makes up for him cleanin mine out.
Also, I have noticed lately, that some beaches just wash all there drops back into the sea. Low tide buzzes are worth exploring, even then it may take 3 or 4 goes to realise that this is where they are as well.
