To the end of the road.

Trip # 94.After the move out of town i headed down to the fishermans spot at the end of the road. Found the usual lead sinkers and alloy but that didnt matter cause i was just keen to get out.
2 goldies, 7 coins all up.

...was just keen to get out.

Lord of the rings.

A visit from Crisyboy lead to a buzz at the end of the road. Que jumping down the beach at me new spot Chrisyboy finds two small rings lying not far from each other. A 20 cent piece was my best.
TRIP # 95. 1 coin, two rings.

Being just keen to get out is a good way to find stuff Shane.
Been wondering which end of the road you mean. When I was a kid down the end of the road
was at the Keri inlet past the Edmonds house ruins. Great place to play and picnic then.

Hi metalkiwi, hows the new venture going.
You got it, down the end of the inlet. We have talked about Edmonds ruins and one day i will ask the land-owners if we can search around. I would say that one would not find much there but a historical dig with documentation wouldnt hurt, if allowed.
Spoke to a member of the ol union church site (scout den) the other day and she was very helpful. When they start building there i said that i will present my finds and do a full story. This went down well so i will be looking forward to that. She also said that the old church building went back to Whangaroa where it came from as it was still in top nick.

Sorry Shane I missed your reply.
Re the Edmonds ruins. The Te Tahi Detecting club did a full search there a few years back so
targets are likely to be scarce. Anyway it is an Historic Place so no good without permission.
Just thought you may like to know.
Chris.

I reckon that even if people have detected somewhere before still doesn't mean they got everything. I find stuff in the same place that I go each time, so I miss stuff.

Anyway well done on the rings.

With the lead and other scrap a scrap dealer told me this week not to come more than 6 times a year else nz police will tell me I need a s/hand dealers licence. Apparently nz police are trying to inhibit the thieves who are stealing scrap so thats why they are policing it so closely. Bit of a bummer for me as I look forward to my $20 to $40 every few weeks for selling detecting scrap. Now I have to hold onto it longer. The dealer told me its really hurt his business, as fewer sellers are coming in as they hold onto it longer. Its a case of good people being caught up in a "catch all" rule.

Lord of the Rings 2. The 6 rings.

Trip #98

After que-jumpin me last spot I was lucky to take Crisyboy to the other side of the bay to a hot spot. Hearing about the sovereign finds of late we headed to the closest most likely spot to be holding. Two hours in we were about to stop for coffee when i struck the first ring, a silver with a clear stone. Ready to head back down i say, "we aint leavin till we find GOLD..", one minute later im spewin as Crisboy pulls a GOLD plated ring up from the depths, he swings again to find a silver ring, ha, he swings a third and pulls a triple band GOLD ring. Im screaming at him from over yonder as GOLD fever hits me and im feelin woozy. Cut it short he found five all up and i found one, in my defence it was the first one..Great day glad we went.
A 1952 NZ penny, 18 coins all up. 4 silver rings, 1 triple band 375 GOLD ring and 1 GOLD something ring we cant figure out.

...and 1 GOLD something ring we cant figure out.
UserPostedImage

...18 coins all up.
UserPostedImage

..In order to find GOLD i/we dug every signal bar the iron, even if you knew it was a ringpull (if you believe that you will believe anything..).

...and the lead.

...all the space junk.

Coming up. Lord of the Rings 3, The final episode (..basically means Crisyboy is goin home tomoro).

But first a glimpse of a find that looks like GOLD, smells like GOLD, 9 stones, very corroded which makes us think its an alloy mix and all thats left is the GOLD. Wot you think, hard to tell.

Lord of the Rings 3. My turn.

Trip #99

Day two of this episode and our third trip this month up here in the bay. We hit the other side of the bay again to a high sweeping quiet beach for something different, not ideal but worth doing. Conditions are not that good of late as the south easterlies combined with low tides have been leaving shell and sand high up on the beaches. Ive been to this spot before so i head to where i found an old watch and ding ding straight onto what appears to be a very old corroded ring , 9 stones, appears to be GOLD. Again its very hard to tell. We scratched what we could to see what we could see and it was yellow all the way. If it looks like GOLD, smells like GOLD, then it must be GOLD.
1 ring, 15 coins all up. One coin was a 1860's NZ Token. J. M. Merrington. Wholesale & Retail Drapers & Outfitters. Nelson.

Lord of the Rings. The sequel.

FOSSICKING TRIP # 100.

Couldnt resist a third trip back to the hot spot as this was trip # 100 so i guess i had to pull a descent find. There was no stopping me, made a line down that beach and off i went, i wanted GOLD. One hour in and a solid ding ding ding high in the silver range, a sinker for sure, dig dig and whammo, there it was, a big bad-boy silver with three deep red coloured stones. You beauty, thats 9 rings between us this month i just wonder if i could manage a tenth. Buzzing along a bit more- past the picnickers and ding ding again somewhere in the foil range. Yeha. This next ring was old and deteriated but good enough to make it the tenth one found. Cant wait to get home to tell everyone.
2 rings, 7 coins all up and a tractor.

...whammo, there it was.

For sure, dont know how lucky we are up here. If only i had a boat to get to those remote beaches, life would be even more sweeter. All in good time.
