Good trip down the line

Went down to Chrisyboy's to check out some finds and to pick up a cap gun collection which i couldnt wait too get me hands on (...waited 40 odd years to own one of these bad boys... as a youngster in a kaiapoi department store i remember picking them up unable too afford one). Three old school guns all with plastic type grips. The cool one is italian. They are at least 40 years old and in top working order except for the italian as its a bit iffy, all the more better as it looks aged. Had to post some pics couldnt resist.

First up a lead steam roller. Then, obsidian and other assorted NZ stones and gems found by Chrisyboy. Note the green coloured stone has a fossill on it.

Latest finds by Chrisyboy

1945 threepence. 1980 tongan 20 cent. 1862 ch-ch grocer trade token. A blue gemstone.

UserPostedImage

A heavy as silver ring, possibly weighs an ounce. A 9ct GOLD bracelet. 1862 trade token. And a rare looking blue gemstone. Looks like obsidian in a crystal/gem like form.

Quite differant to lapis lazuli which is from the northern hemisphere i do believe and a multi coloured bluish stone where as this one is more chrystal like. It may be soda lite, or something like that, still not sure.

Yes.....it would be good if the pic's could be downsized before being added to the thread. Most modern digital cameras have a setting that allows you to choose the pic sizing before you take the shot.......it's not hard to change and you can use it as a permanent setting if you choose. In most cameras you'll find the sizing option in the main menu. I use a 640 x 480 setting and this allows me to load most photo's without having to re-size.
I am able to open the larger pic's Chris, but they do take up to 30 seconds to load and then I have to downsize them myself using a sizing program....it's a bit of a hassle though.

Thanks for that info No8, I need to learn how to decrease my photo sizes before uploading. What with being a computer idiot and all that. I'll give that a try.

My greatest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my collection for what I told her it cost me.

Interesting as i dont have two many download probs. My worn out computer opens with Picasa.
Are there any pics on this thread that no-one can open, just wondering.
I like using photobuket, takes a bit of time to download and resize everything but the end result is cool. And your photos are stored there as well.

Most digital cameras come with software that will let you resize photos before saving.

Try resizing to 800x600 - that's still a decent size and when you upload that size it uses the pop-up function on this site.

The other thing to do is to crop the photo BEFORE resizing, to get rid of all the useless space around the subject matter.

Usually this is done by using the "selection" tool, and clicking and dragging for the top left to the bottom right so you end up with a box highlighting the important area of the photo, then selecting "crop" from the edit or tools menu or whatever. Then resize to 800x600 and then upload to your forum post.

When people upload huge 3 or 4Mb photos, I seldom download them to look at them because I'm on metered internet via ORCON and I'd rather blow my monthly allocation watching Alaskan gold videos. :)

My computer is being kind today so i have the chance to read/reply to some posts.
The snake buckle is pre wwi and im not sure which country it belongs to. Together with the old time cross, belt parts and the like, i assume we stumbled across a pre wwi military gathering on a small beach. May have been leaving or they may have arrived here, not sure as i cant id the snake buckle which is the biggest giveaway. Did NZ military use these buckles in ww2 i wonder? Best coins here were no help for a date. 1855 shilling, 1862 ch-ch trade token, 1945 3p, usa 1 cent 19--.
Th uzi and the 1911 are made from a cardboard cut out pack. Aquired from the good ol two buck shop.
