Result!! I thought it was probably silver and gilt at first. Well done.

My greatest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my collection for what I told her it cost me.

I wish it was. It possibly fell into black ash when it was hot. Was told a story the other day.

They would bring boats up on to the beach to fill up the ballists. Poles were used to stabalize and level them. They made fires near the boat and melted down pots of lead. They then poured the molten lead into the bottom of the boat for ballist.

Speaking of treasures, check this find out. Found it in a skip bin after being thrown out. Salvaged some other goodies as well, was a good haul. Its remu wood i gather and green felt interior. Originally used as a cutlery (knives, forks spoons etc) box. Hand made by someone born with one arm i do believe..

P.S. Check out the treasures mag I got when I purchased me detector. Thats a real treasure on its own.

P.S. again. And you know what im going to put in it, mmm, finds.

Check out these finds by Chrisyboy fossicked from a northland creek. They are deep rich wine coloured stones. One appears to be very dark. Often found in the pan when fossicking throughout NZ as ive seen these stones before on other members posts. But here they are, here in northland.
