#49 #50 #51 trip. A couple of differant spots this time and some from the site. Found the silver heart under a tree and found a Canadian emblem badge in amongst some coins.
Aprox 20% of the coins i find at the site are hit by a mower of some kind. 10% are foreign coins.

A couple of differant spots this time

With xmas upon us detecting slows down and we get into festive mode. Im going out for a few hours today for a pre xmas buzz at the site. At this stage im doing a full grid of the place and are about half way.
Counted up most of the coins from my records and in 5 months of detecting/fossicking ive found aproximately 805 coins and about 40 other treasures. Say 850 items of interest. I am very happy with the finds i have so far.
Took that silver (engagment) ring i found recently to the jewelers for a clean up and it came back awesome. Gave it to my better half whilst out for dinner last night. Yes.
Merry xmas everyone. Nice finds to you all.

Cheers guys. Your comments are inspirational.
#52 and #53 trip. A couple of laps at the site again as i grid more intensly. 16 coins and a key. One coin (a 20c piece) has a hole drilled in it. Quite pleased with this find as its a little differant.
Trip 53 was a place of historical interest here in the Bay of Islands. Went there around the dim light time as not to attract to much attention. I planned to go there and find a penny. I found more than i expected. First a 1908 sixpence and then a NZ 1951 half penny. Very happy with these two finds.

Yes it was nice find in deed. The second oldest silver i have. The other being a 1895 sixpence. Location of find, well..Glad they dont lynch in this country cos they probly would if they caught you digging there.. So, ive now got, in silvers, queen victoria, edward VII, george V, george VI, and an elizabeth II.
A total of 12 silvers. The 3 florins are 50% silver. So if i found aprox 805 coins and 12 of them were silver then 1 in 67 coins found was silver.

#54 trip. Last day of the year and i managed to get a few hours hunting in at the site. Topped the day off by finding my oldest silver coin yet .. An 1882 french 50 cent. I do believe that its .835 silver content. Cant believe my luck today, very happy indeed with this find. Also i found a vintage 1857-1957 jubilee boy scouts Baden Powell (BP)100 years enamel pin badge. Great way to finish off the year. 14 coins and a badge.
Have a safe new year everyone.

Shane

That is an excellent silver coin find Shane. Not too many of those about I reckon.

The scout badge brings back memories as 1957 is about when I was in the Kerikeri Scouts.
All the dads built a new den for the troop on Stan Booths property next to where the first plough was used on
the way down to the Stone Store. Man we had some fun there. But I digress.

Hope the tourists leave behind plenty of loot with your name on it.

You seem to have a gold mine there Shane! or should I say silver mine! That coin looks mint, and you should be proud of that achievement! seriously the best 1800's coins that I have are barely recognizable. I think that was an excellent end to the year ;)

Don't forget that January is the national hobby month!!! great excuse for a detecting trip! ;)

Great info there Metal k. Adds more to my history lesson as i do believe we are talking about the same place. Eventually they moved the old Kaikohe coart house there (im fairly sure this is right) and used it as the union church. Later on they also used the place for the Y.H.A. The whole place was bulldozed back to a flat paddock in 2011. Im now trying to figure out the 1882 french coin and how it fits in there.

FIRST NEW YEAR HUNT
#54 trip. To the usual haunt again and i would like to get this spot finished as its taking a long time and this last bit is close to the road. The gravel driveway is tough going as its a long time hardpack. The ace can pull a coin 3-4 inches in this hardpack gravel which seems quite impresive as i have to jackhammer down with my shovel. This adds to the amount of time taken to clear the area. Anyhow, i found two sixpences in one hole, one a 1934 silver, the other a 1947 copnik. Great way to start the year.. On a silver roll here as a few of us are. A NZ 1934 and 1947 sixpence, 14 coins all up. The coin lower right is another 12 sided canadian coin, my 3rd non round coin.

All the silvers/nonsilvers so far. (Note how i scratched the edward VII by being too 'overkeen'.)
