Hi all. Back with a new page and some cool finds. Finally dug a hundred coins from my favorite site. And also dug an old brownies golden hand badge 1956. Blue enamel and a bit of GOLD plating i think. Very happy with this find as it takes the tally at this spot to one piece of jewerlly (ive found 4 pieces here) per 25 coins found. 4 coins all up and a badge. One coin is a 1941 NZ sixpence.
#41 trip. 4 coins. Makes a total of 100 found at the site.

Lots of fun those metal detectors Shane - I like the silver sixpence - I always did succumb to silver coins - a bit like Scrooge McDuck!

Good going Shane.

Hi there Oroplata, Lammerlaw and Gnut. Always a pleasure to here from you all. Well you both got me there. I stand corrected that there is in fact 7 sides to this coin. Your powers of observation are truely noted. Again , when i first found this coin i thought it was old and took a deep breath. It was hit by the mower. dirty and strange. Needless to say any coin when your hunting them is a gem. After a recent trip to the site with Chrisyboy, we returned home and he cleaned all of my silver coins as he does. I was surprised to see that these were all the silver coins i had found the last six months. Which seems to add up to everyone elses silver coin finds.
Oh, and safe travelling Mem. We all catch you when you back.

10 silver coins.

An excert from< How To Find Lost Treasure by Charles Garrett.
The older the treasure the better.
There is no doubt that most treasure hunters truely enjoy getting out into the parks, playgrounds and other outdoor areas simply to search for lost coins, jewelry and other valuables. And they delite at every discovery! But, lets face it, the finds we enjoy most are the ones with the greatest value. This lets us benifit financially from the hobby. Thus, it behooves us to make the most diligent efforts to locate the treasure hunting areas where the greatest amount of targets with the most value are to be found. Granted, each of us experiences a thrill when we dig up a single coin, even if it is of current vintage and worth only face value.
I hope that each of you share my special joy in finding something old...a remnant of the past.

Shane

Even at my age and with the experience of finding some good gold finds I still get a kick from finding...anything! Out on the lawn the other day I picked up a copper washer, a Royal New Zealand Navy badge, a ten cent piece, a fifty cent piece, a hunk of brass from a tap that I had smashed up twenty years ago for scrap metal and it went flying across the yard and a brass machine nut. It might seem strange but finding them was all good.

Nice finds to you out on the lawn there Lammerlaw. The navy badge find is a bonus. Who would of thought that coins could be so interesting. Until you actually head out to purposely find one, then it becomes very interesting.

Hi there Mineforgold. What type of machine are you getting. I remember waiting for mine and the total joy when it arrived in a cool box.
#42 trip. The site 13. Went down to my favorate site today and enjoyed an hour or two there. The ground is so hard and dry that i had to chip my way to the finds. My thumb is still buzzing from holding the garden scoop to dig the hard soil. 1 goldie, 17 coins all up and a piece of a knecklace which i thought may have been a big find at first. Took my time escavating it just in case, again in the very hard dirt.

17 coins. A 1945 NZ sixpence. An english new pence 10p and two NZ shillings.

Hi Shane. I have gone with a Tesoro Lobo SuperTRAQ just so I am not the same as everyone else ;)

I will no doubt find out if its any good in kiwi conditions. But after seeing everyone else's treasures on the forum I just had to give it a go.

Good way of thinking Mineforgold. Being a little differant than everyone else is a good thing. My 350 works efficiently and i am very happy with it. I think that im the only one hunting on this site with an ace 350 and that makes it so much more exciting. Just had a brouse at a Tesoro on the net and it seems quite the machine for the job. Im sure you will have many nice finds with it.
For sure Poohbear. The site of silver is just as grand as GOLD.
Thank the heavens it is raining up here today. Hasnt rained in well over a month. We need it badly as bush fires evrywhere and dried up water tanks. Not to mentoin the ground is so hard and dry its like digging cement. Should be better digging at my favotate site.

#43 trip. Hi all. Was working next to a beach today that i had previously fossicked. Found another 15 coins.
The rain (finally) is softening up the ground so ill hit the site this week and next a bit harder. Im guessin the grass is goin to get long now making it harder to swing. Finding more and more coins there all the time. Even when goin over previous bits, and theres still heaps to go. This spot is a very high junk spot. The more i get to know the 350 the better it is to make the finds. Would like to try another type of machine there. Tried Chrisyboys. When he came up here recently with his machine, he walked straight up to a penny first pop. I hadnt found one yet but since found 2 half pennys. Speaking of Chrisyboy (Addicted To Metal) have you seen wot hes found this month. GOLD.

15 coins

well if you scratch off the rust and other crud you can still hand them in... you would be surprised at the state of some of the coins I have handed in! one had a hole strait through it! lol... I did hand them in to the bank though... they do give you a weird look when they are counting them.

Also, why did we switch to steel??? another smart move by the government... lol
