Those ones are indeed treasures and great finds - I would have a special genuine treasure trove container for good stuff like them as they are certainly not common everyday coins to find - I love them.

Funny how it goes, the last few times out I just found pocketfuls of 1 and 2 cents and the occasional stray dollar.

Yummmy a half crown......cant wait to find one of them myself. Don't those 1's and 2's annoy ya?

Yea I was quite pleased with my little $30 detector when I found that 1/2 crown!... it did me well. But I am doing MUCH better with my f2!!!!

But I was even more pleased with my F2 when I found the 2 1800's sixpence and that 1908 3pence! ( my old detector couldn't pick them up )

@DB Good luck on those sites... I have done a bit of research on the 2nd one... (better not grab all the silver and gold ;) )lol I think you will do well on that second one.

Yes those 1cent and 2cents are quite annoying as they ring quite high and I am thinking maybe its a silver or a penny (i do like finding them better than rubbish though).

Here are today's lunch break finds:

I found my first farthing! I wasn't sure what it was at first as it was an unusual size. It was not deep at all and practically sitting on top! that shows how much the beaches have been eroding! also found some ausi coins and a 5 cent maylay coin from 1950... interesting... lol and $7.10 in spendable... I don't know how I keep finding $0.10 pieces when I have iron discriminated out... fair to say I saw it rather then detected it...

Here is the pic and lots of one cents!!!

forgot to mention that I just got a garrett pro-pointer!!!! it is making the retrieving part really easy! I was able to get a lot more good time detecting as I just stuck the pointer in and took the target out! cut my retrieving time in half at least! paid for it mostly with my spendable that I have been saving up :)

There is a guy selling them up in the north shore.

Seriously if you don't have a pin pointer you NEED one... lol It made my time more productive like my 30 minute hunt was more like an hour hunt!!!

Yep. The propointer is well worth getting, it saves SO MUCH TIME. I think you can dig and recover 4 times as many coins per hour using one.

Great finds and posts Gnut. Those modern 10 cent pieces i find make the signal bounce around, so i dig those type of signals and find them too.

I do hope you wear gloves when you play with Hydrofluoric acid. My understanding is that it
is one acid that can build up in the body which has got to be undesirable.

For the silvers that I have been finding that are not really valuable I find the quickest way for me is with salt... yes that is right salt.

I have been experimenting with salt and vinegar (which works but a bit slow) & just yesterday I tried salt and lemon juice... seriously all that red junk and green crap gone in like 15 to 30 seconds! all I do is drop the coin in the lemon juice for a second then take it out and rub salt in it... and you watch all that green and red crud wipe away! seriously try that method before using those tough acids... you will really be surprised..

Now with coins that you do not want to damage... I found that using the vinegar and rubbing salt on it (takes a bit longer) but it doesn't really make look like its been cleaned.

Just do not leave the coin in the salt and acid mixture very long... lol ;)

Ok so I went for a 1/2 hour hunt at my usual spot and started to go back over the spots that I had previously done with my cheap detector and BOY am I glad I did! I stuck silver! this is that silver shilling that I have been telling you all about. also found 3 pennies... but i gave one to a boy who was watching me hunt... and I tried not to cringe when his grandmother said that they could clean the coin with ammonia... oh well hopefully he'll get an interest in it too... got to pass it down to the next generation.

well here is the pic.

Well last night was a very unexpected night to say the least. I planned to go to a known historical site but I wanted to wait till dark so as to not gain much attention. So I decided to detect a bit at a beach nearby. Now the beach had just been layered with new sand so I was not thinking that I would find much but I was hoping to find some goldies. But instead i found two silver coins and a $2 coin. I was pretty chuffed to find 2 silver coins out of three when I was not expecting to find much at all!

When I got to the historical site I was excited as I knew that I should find a heap of old coins... but as soon as I turned on the detector it was going crazy! it was bouncing a million signals when I wasn't even moving! Don't know what was happening! so I basically held the pinpoint button down as I searched. it was long and annoying! But I did have what I think is the best find that I have had yet! I found an old silver broach that has an amethyst in it marked C & N and from what I have seen these antiques from that silversmith are selling at around £200.00! which is like $500 or so!!!

here are the pics!
