Geez mate......you're going "all guns blazing". Congratz on the permission and the resulting finds too.....a nice bit of inspiration for the rest of us!

With all this shyte weather, I can feel a bloody bad dose of the withdrawals coming on. At least I can get some comfort from knowing we're all in the same crap situation I guess. :(

Hmmmph found a signal in my backyard last week, marked it with a funnel (was next to the kids sandpit what can I say). Was way to wet to dig, but yesterday had a small window, waited days to dig it and you guessed it a friggin' 1c piece

Might watch Diggers again - getting that desperate.

My first ever silver was a 1908 Threepence, number 2 was a 1926 Sixpence and it's still one of my favorite coins. Yours is just that liddle bit older.

nice coins i reckon, and not to much older, i just had the biggest arguement with a council grounds keeper at the park ive been doing for weeks, even tho i have permission this little 50 yr old man telling me i should clear off soon i said i have permission to be here, no you dont fuck off get a real job he said, well i let the fker have it, i said i tidy this park up more than you, im doing no permanent damage, he said yes you are little circles everywere, as i said to him after 1-2 weeks you will never know. then dick face said ill call the cops i laughed and told him hes a old junky idiot (looked like one) lol. his boss then turned up and came to me holding a cellphone here john (head of the council guy who gave me permission) wants to talk to you, basicly pointless as john said he has no problem with me metal detecting the park as long as there is no permanent damage at all, i said of course not and told him i will come and see him at the council, the guy took his phone back i said he doesnt have a problem, ya mate down there has a chip on his shoulder he needs to sort out. i then left and went to council, also took a shopping bag full of cans, lids, glass, sharp tent pegs, beer lids, random junk. showed john the main man and he was impressed and took a photo of the stuff, he said he had 2 complaints about me, one was who gave me permission to detect there, they were told me (john) lol. and 2nd was if he finds a bag of gold whos is it? lol like really someone actually rung the council and said that lol. good meeting indeed as long as i keep it tidy with zero damage im aloud. still ruined my day made me angry and feeling violent so i left the park for the day as i really didnt wanna see the nutter groundsman while i was in that mood again. anyway big blabble over lol enjoy

I'd be be cutting U shaped plugs or even better use the slit technique then challenge them to find where you have been.

I've had two annoyances from the public one was a guy trying to show off to his girlfriend (or wannabe). Just kept getting in my face until he noticed my serrated putty knife. The other, some guy got really up in arms and took a picture of me (you can't stop someone taking your picture if your in a public place, it's only illegal if the recording device is concealed) - I warned him if he did I'd follow him home.. he took the picture so I followed him home (he pretty much ran). I'm not the biggest lad in the world and I'm not very easily upset... but sometimes... only sometimes I take exception especially to toffee nosed upstarts - they are my weakness! I know better and should have behaved better no buts about it I was a bad lad.. everyone has a bad day now and then. My theory was he already had a bee in his little girly bonnet and nothing was going to change that but attempting to force his ignorant opinion upon me just wasn't gonna fly.

I've met plenty of Delta workers here and have never had a problem with any, in fact many stop and have a yarn and can see that everything is above board - One even asked me to give him a call if I noticed anything out of place.

Hi goldstalker,
Nice finds & a good read. Doing really well over there.
Last year when I was back for a Holiday I spent a couple of hours at Dixon park in Grey. Concentrating on where the old path used to run diagonally from Sawyers Creek to the Remembrance? Bridge.
Found a lot of Coins, especially Pennies & Half Pennies - all rooted. The highlight was a 1914 US Silver Dime, plus lots of 3 & 6pences. A real mixture of English,Australian & NZ ones. However, nothing bigger than a Shilling.
I also spent an afternoon at Victoria park in front of the now demolished grandstand. That area was loaded with targets.
Lots of small Silvers, the majority being NZ 3p's. for 4 hours there I detected nearly 120 Coins, lots of spills of Pennies & Half Pennies - if you thought the soil it Dixon park was rough on Coins, you ain't seen nothing compared to there.
Copper Coins literally changed colour & broke apart once dug up. My favourite find from there was a 1912 Aussie sixpence. Before I left they ripped all that area up into big heaps, you could pick Coins out of the dirt.

I also had a few hours at Omoto racecourse, didn't find much there. But I was talking to an older guy who told me that previously a couple of people from ChCh spent a weekend there detecting. Parts of that racecourse have been built right up - so the older stuff there is really deep. One area there got some really early English Coins.

If you want a good read, get your hands on a copy of Gold, Coins, Greenstone & Bottles by Peter Neame.
He did a lot of detecting around the Goldfield areas on the Coast. The books got some great pictures & stories about the finds he made. This bookshop in Hokitika should still have copies -

http://www.westcoastbook...roddetail.asp?prod=BGold

Anyway, good luck on your future hunts:)!

P.S I forgot to mention the nearly 200+ 1 & 2c Coins dug, bastard things!

hi :) thanks for the awesome comment, love to hear of all the awesome finds in the local places, that 1914 dime would be the best for me i think :) i knew someone would have beaten me to most places lol omoto i only had a few pennys and 1c 2c, victoria park in town had a couple of silvers and modern money but its being used as a gravel dump and storage yard now so its a mess :( its a shame really. hokitika seems to be untouched detecting wise everywere i go there is history galore im loving it. and i seriously hate with a passion the 1c 2c lol i might just burn mine for revenge :) thanks for the reading info to i will have to get copies. thanks again for your post :)
