I think that may be a young hen pheasant Shane.
There is an older one to the right behind the bush too.

Possibly a Moa, i hear they taste great!
Went thru the bird book and all i could find was a Weka. I thought the weka had a longer beak than the ones in the pic, still not so sure.

I'm thinking now they were female pheasants with short tails if any, possible as i heard. Hard to say as they weren't wekas.

Across the bay to the other side

Trip #154

Off to the other side of the bay. Hunted a couple of spots hard out solid for 5 or so hours, arm started going numb. Seen a couple of other detectorists when i got there combing along digging holes and tossin beerlids, great to watch. Seen a big ship in the bay again there were tourists everywhere walking along, good to see. Found a coin (pirate treasure) and gave it to the young fella and his dad when they came over for a chat.

2 goldies, 14 coins all up. A .925 ring and a copper necklace
1960 NZ sixpence
1967 10 cent (shilling)

Great result on the .925 Shane.

Out in the Bay before the big storm hits

Trip # 155

Checking out beach conditions before Cyclone Luci hits. Could create some nice cutaways for hunting as its coming in from the east. Hopefully it wont reak to much havoc.
A 3 hour hunt with the first find a reasonable junk ring followed up by 3 coins.

3 coins all up and a paua and love heart junk ring.
1975 NZ 2 cent
1982 NZ 20 cent

For sure Poohbear. Hope you guys safe down there as Luci has passed us here now with only rain present. Sure was scary there for a while. Headin down your way so best you batten down the hatches just in case.
Seen our local beach on the tele getting hammered by 5 m waves. Looked like all the coins were being washed up on the road... hmmm.

Foss mag at the printers so should be something to look forward to this week other than wind and rain.
