Yeah Tony, I guess we're pretty spoiled most of the time, with all the good silvers in Christchurch and Dunedin. Pretty much nine out of ten hunts usually end up with at least one silver, so I guess that's why I mentioned it. I still consider any silver to be a highlight of a hunt and as you said, just being out there and doing it is reward enough!
I started putting trade tokens and medallions etc... into an album when I first started. It's nice to have them all in one place and it also makes it easy to transport them safely. I put all the tokens I find in the album, even the unreadable ones so that I know how may I've found......same with the majority of silvers! Some of the better buttons and things that just won't fit into the album, go into the cardboard coin pockets. I keep these in a plastic divider case.
I just bought a ring display case recently off TradeMe after seeing Roy's one, and have put all the ring and brooch finds into that.
Geez!........for once in my life, I think I'm fairly organised!

A very pleasant hunt this arvo with Roy. Always great to be out in the sun, doing what you enjoy with people that share the same passion.
Amongst the small decimals and pennies, were a few choice finds;

1 x 1936 NZ sixpence
1 x 1946 NZ shilling
1 x 1975 Brit two pence....a new first for me!
$1 spendie........and a nice solid .925 ring.

A very enjoyable afternoon. H/H all.

Hi Chris... Yeah for a while, down opposite the old sales yards. Roy and I started out at a park I had only tried very briefly once before. That turned out to be pretty average except for the H.M.S. New Zealand medallion. I thought I'd give it another try today and got the .925 ring. It seems to be 90% modern (post 1930) stuff with all the older stuff being deep under the resurfaced turf.

I see that you're heading for new pastures...a.k.a. Gore area. I get down that way for work during the year, so will try to catch up with you once you are settled in. All the best for your move mate. When do you go?

Went on a roadie today with me old mate Roy. A real scorcher of a Canterbury day, so we stopped for an ice cream on the way. The local shop had this interesting "Pohutakawa Honey" flavour available, so I thought I'd give it a try...............best bloody ice cream I think I've ever had!!!

Anyways......here are a few of the cool finds from today;

A "Max Twin" lipstick case from the 50's in real nice nic.
Two little old copper bells...minus their ringers.
A silver plated 1840-1940 New Zealand Centenary badge.
An "NZ Onward" military badge...WW2 era I guess.
2 x NZ shillings (1943 and 58).
2 NZ sixpence (both 1934).
1 x 1943 NZ threepence.
A neat old c1860's two ringer bullet (unfired).
A Brit 1906 half crown and a Brit 1921 florin...both from the same hole!!!
A 1965 NZ florin....
...and a 1936 Aussie one penny.

Happy hunting all.

Fantastic finds dude, Just "how" do you guys find all of this stuff? maybe I could meet up with you one evening / weekend and get a few tips. I only live a few minutes away from Haggley park so could make it at the drop of a hat.

Gidday kev and welcome to the forum. Yep, I'm sure we could meet up sometime at Hagley. I'm also only minutes away form the old girl too!
It'll probably have to be a Sunday for me as I have sport pretty-much all day Saturday. I'll PM you sometime over the next couple of weeks if you like and we can arrange a hunt. I'm sure some of the other guys would be happy to help you out too.
What machine do you have?

Hi all. Dug this at Hagley last night. Not quite as good as your sovereign coinnut (well, not even close!) but thought it interesting enough to show and tell.
The pic sez it all really but for the record, it's an old Brit shilling that has been cut into this cool central star-shape pattern and then decorated with lots of tiny dots to create the pattern of a crown above the star........pretty cool.
I'm guessing it's quite old as it was 6-7 inches down. Can't read a date. It was obviously well worn before it got converted.

H/H all.

Relax Tony, no need to sweat it mate.......all's good......... It was once another one of Violet Walrond's brooches. You'll remember old chap, it's the one she won during her Olympic event in 1923. So don't panic.......It's been government sanctioned as a "convert" for glory, so it's totally legit.
She said it would look good with her lost silver fern badge........and she was right!

Hi Number 8, I met up with coin nut and jason the night the sov was found and received a few tips (on how to smile) but I'm keen as to go for a hunt with you some time. The more info I can pick up the better. I have a old Whites coinmaster 5000/D but I'm thinking it should be called a key master or can master lol, went out tonight to a park near Barrington shops and found $3 and a old broach depecting a gargoil playing a chello unfortunally the heads missing but hay I found something.

Fantastic find. the nicest looking Brit coin along with the gothic florin I reckon. Good condition too, these wear flat quick with so much raised design going on. 1905 is the date to get next time!!
I'd be over the moon with that .

My greatest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my collection for what I told her it cost me.
