Canterbury Anniversary day on Friday so headed out to our usual camping spot. Hit the local domain for a few hours.
Heaps of 1 and 2 cents (63 in total), $6.00 spendies, 13 pennies, 3 half pennies and 3 silvers (Brit threepence)....the oldest being 1874. One Girl Guides badge, one Boy Scouts badge and a modern RNZAF junior air services corp badge.

Back into town today for my sons cricket, so I sneaked off for an hour or so to Papanui Domain. The hour produced four pennies (oldest 1874), two half pennies, seventeen 1 and 2 cents and $3.20 spendies.

Not a heap of goodies this time but any day out in the sun doing something you enjoy, is a good day! :)

Had a couple of hours with Roy at Hagley this afternoon. Got lots of trinkets but I'm in the middle of a silver "dry patch" at the moment, so no silver coins again.
However, did get;

One very cool old Champion 4 lever padlock...very similar to the one tonznz picked up a while back.

A Lincoln University silver (not hallmarked but I think it's silver) pin badge.

A school "Prefect" pin badge.

A very cool electroplated spoon with Walker and Hall markings and H.G.C. (Hagley Golf Club) on the handle. Not sure of the age as I believe electroplated silver did not have consistent universal date lettering. The letter however is an "X".

and....an Edward Waters One Penny token....very worn and currently soaking in olive oil.

Dug my first bottle today too, albeit only a common old medicine bottle. It had a sandwich plate (broken) over the top, protecting it and the only reason I dug it was because these was also a brass buckle in the hole too!

There must have been a "casting" competition at some stage back in Hagley's past. Between Roy and I, we picked up half a dozen large lead sinkers today!

Had a very enjoyable three hour hunt with Foiled Again at Hagley tonight. We both did well. I got my first Gothic florin...Yeehaa!. It was part of an amazing seven-coin, coin spill.
Got a strong 87-89 signal at four inches. Flipped the plug, dug a bit deeper and out popped a penny. The pin pointer was still going nuts so I shifted a little more dirt and out popped two pennies with the sixpence sandwiched between them. I thought, "Ok that's gotta be it"...but not quite......
The pin pointer was still going nuts. There, just visible in the side wall was the edge of a silver coin. I carefully dug around it and out popped the Florin! I grabbed the handful of coins and jogged over to show Jason.
Still shaking with excitement, I went back to fill the hole in....."just one more sweep" I thought.........and bugger me if I didn't get another signal! A small shift of soil and up came another penny. I was stunned to say the least!

1 x Gothic Florin
1 x 1912 Brit Sixpence (in super condition)
5 x Pennies...Two 1879, one 1910 and two 1912

A big loss to someone back in the day!

Also....

1 x 1873 Brit Sixpence
1 x 1938 Penny
a button and a teapot lucky charm (either pewter or lead)

Happy hunting all.

A superb, warm evening last night for a night-hunt with foiled again. We both did well. Jason's locket was a very cool find, especially when he opened it up to revel the wee photo, cut to fit, of a young lady from the 30's/40's. Great stuff mate and thanks again for the invite.

My finds from the night included two pocket spills. The first was;

Two pennies (1919, 1922) and two half pennies (1912, 1931)

The second was six pennies all up BUT......

Two 1848 Victoria pennies.
One very rare 1827 (apparently only minted for use in Australia, so very rare in the UK) George IV penny.
One 1826 George IV penny.
One 1807 George III penny.
and one so old it is completely unreadable.

Also of note......

One Palmolive soap token (c1920's).
One 1912 Aussie half penny.
One musket ball.
Three NZ sixpence (1933,1940 and 1946).
One NZ threepence 1933.
and.......one very cool pirate skull badge....but sadly, no full cans of Bourbon!

Happy hunting all.

Yeah...... oh-so close but no cigar..........or should that be no bourbon!
If coins of this age can be found in Hagley......... then why not something from the 1700's?
Has anyone on this forum cracked this barrier out of Hagley before?...........

The 1827 penny is a great find, most of them that are left have some form of corrosion as they didn't like the boat trip to oz (bit to salty for them) well done

Got out tonight for a totally unexpected hour and a half hunt. Hit a local spot and had a few nice finds. Amongst the 1 and 2c pieces was a 1971 US 1c. Also a few NZ and Brit pennies along with a knuckle-bone, a bullet thingy and what looks like a brass ring but might just be a piece of pipe.
Also a 1921 Aussie sixpence, a 1936 NZ sixpence, a cool old lead Zulu Warrior, an enamel Red Cross badge (maybe a nurses badge) with a name, number and date (1932) on the back.... and a styley "Alex Ferguson and Co, Breadelbane Highland Whiskey, Glasgow" brass farthing token.
Well pleased with tonight's effort.

Hunted Hagley for a couple of hours tonight and scored a few nice finds.

An 1896 Brit threepence.
An 1858 Brit Shilling......my oldest shilling to date.
A Royal Life Saving Society, New Zealand medallion (not engraved). Was about 5 inches down so guessing 1930's maybe 40's.
A 1940's/50's Lournay lipstick case in fantastic condition.

Well pleased with tonight's effort.
