Hi all,
Just back tonight from two weeks of holiday camping bliss. Some rain but mostly fine and sunny. This meant plenty of MD excursions to far flung rural locations, including small country town domains and old racecourses.
Too many cool finds to list but here's a few of the better ones...

A stirling WW2 RAF air crew serviceman's "Brevet" club badge.
Two .925 rings.
Three superb Brit Shillings (2 x 1880 and one 1875).
Two NZ florins and one NZ half crown.
A WW1 badge yet to be identified (very hard to see so I've played with the light settings for the pic). *WW1 NZ Army Service Corps collar badge*
Oldest penny was 1861.
.......also approx 15 other Brit silvers (3d and 6d) ranging from 1872 to 1922 and about 20'ish NZ 3d, 6d and shilling silvers.

see the pic's below for the rest. Happy New Year all and even happier hunting in 2013!

Nice going Andy, one of those UK shillings looks a real beaut. Its amazing what there is still undiscovered out in the wilds (outside Christchurch!)

My greatest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my collection for what I told her it cost me.

Hunted Hagley for a couple of very pleasurable hours this evening with Roy, in a balmy 27 degree Norwester. Caught up with Hunter and his F75 also, who was doing the very best "silver magnet" impression I've seen around Hagley for a while!
Best of my little pot'o'treasure was.......

Three NZ threepence.
Two Brit threepence.
One dollar spendy
an old set of gilded cuff-links
A very nice sterling silver pin brooch (or possibly a hat pin) with a jet black glass or cut stone central piece in the shape of a rose bloom.....and
A very cool advertising pocket knife "M. B. Foster and Sons" on one side, and "Bass & Guinness" on the reverse.

Happy hunting ye'all.

Road trip today with Roy produced a few good finds but they pale into insignificance next to Roy's FULL SOVEREIGN!
Never-the-less, here are my best finds from the day.

2 x Brit thrupence, 1900 & 1922.
1 x Brit sixpence, 1918.
1 x Brit shilling, 1900.
1 x NZ shilling, 1934.
A nice sterling silver (no hallmarks but "STG") sweetheart brooch with the remnence of a tiny photo in the heart.
and a real cool pin badge advertising "Zetor Diesel" tractors.

Oh yeah........and also a pretty stuffed 1875 "H" penny (my first).

Happy hunting all.

Christchurch Club meeting tonight (last Sunday of the month) but only Ash_T, foiled again and myself showed up, so we decided to cut the meeting short and go to Papanui Domain. A beautiful, warm evening made for a great twilight hunt.

Stoked to get two nice big silvers tonight.....

1 x 1918 Brit Half crown (my first Brit one)
1 x Gothic florin (too worn to date)

Plus, a neat old heart shaped medallion and a very cool WW1 lead soldier missing his feet but still with rifle intact!!

Happy hunting to all...

Some nice finds there Number8. You must be happy with that 1838 silver sixpence. Looks in fairly good knick.

Had a short twilight hunt last night at a local park that I hadn't gone to before. Bugger all finds other than the usual handful of 1 & 2c, $8 spendies and a few NZ and Brit pennies.............not a single silver.
Did however find this old gilded medallion celebrating the visit of HMS New Zealand, "Gift to the Empire" dated 1913............so a pretty successful hunt all up.

Happy hunting.

Maybe we've had it too good re the silvers Andrew. I go on plenty of hunts where I find only one silver or none. Last hunt I was happy to find the old chinese coin and plenty of pennies, but no silvers. I am happy to be out and about, anticipating the next target. Well done on the medalion. I was thinking of starting a folder just with trade tokens and medals and such like. Not that there will be much in it, as its hard to find them and they are often, (esp the trade tokens) in poor condition.
