Cheers Shane. Yes, it was a really enjoyable days hunting with the lads. We all scored some nice finds including a bit of silver each.
Just an awesome feeling to be able to save a little piece of genuine NZ Military history from the ravages of time and decay.
The most rewarding part of that to me though, is to be able to take it home, explain what it is and what it means in the context of our history to my children Then to be able to clean it up and preserve it, so that one day, my children's children can see, hold, understand and appreciate what it means to be a fourth, fifth or sixth generation New Zealander living in this great little country of ours with such a young, yet rich and vibrant history.

Lest we forget. ......such a powerful, yet simple phrase that should mean so much to us all.

your finds simply are amazing No8

I mean to pull that much history out of the ground and to top it off with the military badge is just icing on the cake

Can I be as bold to ask you what settings you hunt with?

I usually run at around 79 sens 34 disc & 2+ tones -

I don't really frequent this part of the forum as much as I should however you seem to have the knack of finding a never ending supply of interesting stuff and I just basically pick up the rubbish lol -

Thanks for keeping my faith going with your finds lol

Thanks for your kind words Sycotoad. As has been said before, I think that I'm simply lucky to live in a part of the country that has so much 19th and 20th century history buried in the ground. We also seem to have a wealth of small country domains up here, as well as good old Mother Hagley to research and explore.

On the T2se, I run mainly on 70 sens, 58 disc and 2+ tones. I do however mix it up depending on whether it's trashy ground or not. I also kick in the boost processor occasionally, particularly if I'm on sparsely targeted ground, or ground I know has extra deep finds.
Cheers for looking in and commenting....I really appreciate the feedback and encouragement.

Had a couple of hours at a small Domain on Sunday afternoon. Hit a small bit of turf that others had obviously missed. Found two half crowns and four pennies within a metre- square patch. Ended the afternoon with nine silvers ( not a patch on Erickd's haul!) and a possible lions head slouch hat hook.....no hook attached tho.

GL & HH to all.

Visited the bushy spot today with Erickd, and was not disappointed with the haul. It certainly lived up to it's reputation as somewhat of a silver mine.
Scored myself sixteen silvers including a nice Young Vicky half crown...too worn to get a date off tho. Also a top notch 1935 florin, several shillings and sixpences, and a few threepence to add to the mix.
Other finds included a brass signet ring, a tortoise shell handled pocket knife and a small buckle.
All in all, a bloody good day out in the sun.

GL & HH to all.

Hi Andrew as you know I stumbled onto your sov finds in latest Foss mag. Well deserved you really truely deserve every one of them ( not so sure about the undersized one though maybe it should have been put back lol.) What's next I wonder? Been doing a little catch up with 'everyone's' finds I have missed of late, some seriously amazing keepers being found out there all over the country congrats to everyone.

Hi all,
Here's a few cool finds from the past couple of hunts.
The first pic is from the one and only hunt over the long weekend.....13 silvers in total but a bit frustrating not to unearth any decent relics.
The second hunt was with Erickd last night...cheers mate. Best find was the superb WW2 Airforce button in top nic. Also scored an absolutely stunning 1873 Brit Sixpence....judging by the condition, I reckon it must have been lost not long after it left the bank, all those years ago. Simply...a stunner.

GL & HH to all.

Choice, always a pleasure to see young Vicky Number8. I must find me one of those mini ball bullets one day for the shelf, must be one around here somewhere for sure.

Had an awesome day out with Erickd yesterday.... lol...not a hope in hell of keeping up with his silver count but...
Scored myself a few choice finds tho, including a fabulous old silver prefects badge...not hallmarked but deffo silver. Probably 1920's/30's. Possibly Christchurch High School?...not sure....and 10 silver coins
Also the world's most pimped-out pigeon ring....certainly wouldn't fit a finger.....but maybe a very small toe!
Very happy also with the beautiful little brooch...so detailed....think it's silver plated But not completely sure.
Found the complete brass fob chain earlier in the day. Took it back to the car and said to Eric that it would have been super-cool to have found it with the old pocket watch attached. He agreed, and we moved on to a new spot a few k's further down the road.
Within 10 minutes of being at the new spot, 'bang'...you guessed it....I dug myself the old pocket watch you see in the pic!
Just freaky and slightly spooky, how these things seem to happen!

All in all, a very enjoyable days hunting.

GL & HH to all.
