A cold but clear night last night, so decided to head back to the "hunted out spot" to give it one more crack........but why bother, it's hunted out.... right?
There I was, sniffing around on me own in the dark for a good half hour, not getting much, when who should I spot appearing out of the gloom.........foiled again and coinnut doing a night mish to the same spot.
After a brief chin-wag and a joke or two about tonight being the night to pull a sov from the said 'hunted out spot', it was time to set to the task.
First decent signal was the cool silver belt buckle ring, slightly squashed but real old and real cool. Not hallmarked but has the word 'sterling' inside the band. Then came a series of musket and pistol balls followed by a modern 10 cent piece..............then............the nights defining moment, the pinnacle of the hunt......the BIG bucket list tick.
A very solid 76-77 on the T2se showing a target at around 6 inches. It hadn't even occured to me that this could be "it".
As I flipped the plug, I knew immediately what was staring back at me.
Coinnut was the closest to hear the almighty "WOOHOO". I think he immediately knew what that meant. Foiled again was way down the far end and missed the call. A second ear bleeding "WOOHOO" and he knew something was up.
Gently I lifted the golden roundness from the hole with both lads looking on, muttering something about 'bastard' under their breath.
What an absolute buzz..........she's a 1902 Edward VII half sov out of the Sydney mint, and as can be seen in the pic's, she's in top nic.
Totally stoked and buzzing with my first half sov....YOU LITTLE RIPPER!!!

It's all ot there lads and ladies.....go get it!

Cheers mate. Yes, a higher reading than I would have thought for the half. I thought 68-72 was the target range but this half was a consistent 76-77.
A 1c is usually 79- 81 on the T2se and a 2c reads 82- 85.

well done no.8,
congratulations. hup hup woohoo.
was that a surface find? jeepers.
expert detecting there fella.
a lesson to all of us though,
forget about thinking that ground once detected is 'done'.
what we are doing is taking the first layer of rubbish away.

Hi all. A couple of hunts this weekend at two different locations.
Highlights were....a total of 12 silvers including a nice old 1873 sixpence. Also two unfired enfield rounds, a small silver charm in the shape of a shoe, an airforce button in super condition, two pennies (1879 & 1881) in great nic and what I believe to be the date bar from a WW2 medal....no medal though bugger it!
Happy hunting all.

A warm Friday night, so hit a local spot for a few hours. Enjoyed the company of Chrispy.....cheers man for a fun nights hunting.
Lots of finds including two beaut old unfired three ringers, an unidentifiable token or maybe medallion, a 1900 Transvaal Boer War NZ Rough Riders medallion in rough condition and a 1934 NZ threepence. Best find of the night for me though was my very last dig.......a 1905 Lord Nelson's Victory Centennial medallion containing copper from the hull and decks of B.F.S.S. Victory.
Looking forward to seeing Chrispy's post, as he picked up some pretty choice finds too.
GL & HH to all.
