Couldn't resist a warm Sunday evening hunt tonight, so headed back to my favourite spot at South Hagley for an hour. Amongst the bits of aluminium and pull tabs, I managed to score a nice 1872 shilling, a 1940 NZ threepence and a cool old silver cuff stud.
Seem to have South Hagley all to myself these days . Haven't seen any fellow detectorists out there for ages.

Short hunt tonight at South Hagley and......on the board with the first GOLD ring of the year! Looks to have been butchered a bit tho, with what would appear to be lots of holes drilled through it. Can still read 9ct and some letters on it......but no hallmarks. Pretty ugly really but it's GOLD and I'll take it!
Also scored five sweet little silvers to add to the stash.
Happy hunting all.

Hunted last night with Tonznz and scored this sweet and very old little GOLD ring from deep in the Dunedin bush. Was a very deep, very faint and scratchy signal....nearly didn't dig it. Stoked.
Happy hunting all.

Yeah, cheers Roy. Great to hear from you me old mate. How's life in sunny Queensland these days?
Yep....pretty old I reckon too. Not hallmarked and no carat number but 9ct I would guess. Was stoked to get it considering I nearly didn't dig it! That's two golds already this year!
Lol....I might even be ahead of DB (Max) with the gold, for a short time this year! :p

You will be doing well to keep ahead of DB, I don't know how he does it. Sweet find number8, you will be glad you did dig. I have been walking away from a lot of weird, iffy disappearing then reappearing signals lately, probably junk but maybe not!

Only one short hunt this weekend but geez she was a goodie!
Managed to get two nice little silvers and hit a four penny coin spill. The best find however was this spectacular GOLD Victorian hair locket....complete with the original dead loved-ones lock of hair......cool but eewww!
No hallmarks or carat stamp on it but it's impressively heavy so maybe 18ct?...don't know.
Happy hunting all.

Yeah I rekon that's an awesome hr or so, I'd be well chuffed with that result. As for myself today.......Well Foiled ended up with 5 silvers & me a big fat zero haha, Taught me a lesson yet again!! I don't seem to have that much luck across the board so to speak at Hagley just happens all at once & then nothing for ages. Must be in line for a big find soon!!!
