respect #8 (more).

locket is my 'once-er',
fantastic find fella.

now, to do everyone a favour,
could you not get some buildey mates together,
shave the top 12 inches off south hagley park,
packet it up, and sell it to us 'no-idea' wastrels up north here? surely.

i'm searching 45 degree cliff faces,
you're walking in the park.

cheer.
mickey.

Well done dude, the locket is especially cool, being able to open it and find someones treasure inside. Mint! Glad I could assist with some inspiration to get out that day haha not that you need it!!

Thanks mate. Yeah, wasn't til I got it home and cleaned it up, that I realised what it was. Thought it was another threepence because it's the same size.
Just looked up the shilling and see that it's a rarer year too! ......STOKED!

Gidday Roy. Yes, it was around 9" and partially under a large tree root. Being .925, it actually rang up in similar numbers to a threepence....hence the reason I thought it was a 3d until I got it home and cleaned it up.
Its the first Groat I've heard of being dug in Chch too, although I vaguely recall maybe Hunter getting something silver with a seated Brittania on it....can't remember what it was tho. ***Just found out that it was his Baltic War Medal that had the seated Brittania, so might well be a first Groat found in Chch....cool!***
Was talking to Tonznz earlier tonight, and he has one that he dug while on holiday in Auckland a couple of years back.
Pretty rare out here in NZ I guess.

Yep, those finds will def come Iggy. The more hours you put in, the better tuned in you will become, and the more you research your local history, the better your chances become of finding those bucket list treasures.
The F4 is a great unit and it's just a matter of time before you'll start ticking off some of those things on your MD bucket list.
Good luck and happy hunting. :)

PS; Still waiting for my first sovereign too.......race ya! ;)

Thanks mickey, always fantastic to find Victorian silver. Has anyone on this forum ever dug a Waitangi crown? Would be a very special find indeed.

Waitangi crowns didn't get used as currency but I have seen a very worn one on TM before so you never know! Maybe one slipped out of the case on the way back from the post office. Haha

Hunted today with foiled again. Three silver coins and a wee silver ring were the highlights. Also got a 1919 Aussie half penny and a nice old 1862 penny.

Good luck and happy hunting all.
