Up and out at dawn this morning. Hit a part of South Hagley that I've done before, and I know has been well hunted in the past. Quite trashy but took it real slow.
First good hit was a 1936 NZ threepence followed shortly afterwards with a nice Victorian enamel brooch. After a few trash digs, some clad and a couple of pennies, out pops a beautiful 1926 Brit threepence in top nic. Around fifteen minutes later I get a nice strong and clear 77 on the Delta, and out pops a very cool Victorian buckle/brooch thing. A bit more junk and a few pennies later, I get this clear banging 92 pinpointing at 7 inches, so I know it's gotta be good............sure enough, out pops a sweet 1872 Gothic florin in great nic.......and I managed not to gak it with the Lesche!

All this over the space of two hours from an area I thought had been well hammered. Just goes to show that it only takes millimetres and swinging the coil a bit too quick, to miss a great target!

Happy Hunting all.

Great result.
Something about a Gothic Florin.
I only have one so far.

Nice! I too love the look of those florins. Have yet to find one. I'm quite interested in the brands other than Minelab, Fisher and Garrett. Some seem very good. I know the Technetics and Fisher are linked but I've not seen any in the flesh.

Cheers for all the feedback guys. Was just looking through my silvers and see that this was my 15th Brit florin! I'm damn sure that the number wouldn't be that high if I hadn't hunted slowly in the high trash areas.
The old Delta has been real good to me over the past year and a half but now I'm seriously looking at upgrading to the Teknetics T2 SE. I've gone through the process of looking at the pros and cons of other brands and models out there but for what I want out of a detector, I see Teknetics as being my preferred option.....they just seem to produce great coin and relic hunting gear.

Down South in Dunedin tonight so met up with Tony (tonznz) for a night hunt. Hit a hillside in North Dunedin and scored four silvers, five pennies, two half pennies and a couple of buttons. Silvers were;
2 x Aussie threepence (1910 & 1911)
1 x Brit sixpence 1903
1 x Brit shilling 1927
Also dug a very cool old S. Mordan & Co gold plated mechanical pencil in pretty good nic. Just missing the top....and lead of course!

Great to catch up with you again Tony.

Happy hunting all.

Awesome going, delta rocks.
What size coil are you using, I find that my round coil is great for picking targets from each other, and the depth is wicked.
And I find that slower the better.
Happy hunting out there.

Yep....in my humble opinion, the Delta is a top beginners/intermediate coin and relic machine for sure.
I use (and have nearly always used) an 11" DD coil. Some say using a smaller coil in trashy areas is better but in my experience (having tried a small coil) I feel that you compromise on target depth..... but by going slow with the 11", you retain the depth and still pick the good tones between the trash signals...........again, just my humble opinion from my experience.

Had another hunt tonight in Dunedin and scored a few silvers including a sweet pair of NZ Florins (1933 & 1935) from one hole! It was a real big banging signal at 5 inches too!
Also scored a 1944 shilling and two Brit sixpences (1878 and 1912).
Happy hunting.

Hunted North Hagley this afternoon. Got there about 3.00pm and stayed til 5.00 but didn't see anyone else hunting. Dug a lot more targets than usual. Picked up a couple of small silvers (incl an Aussie threepence), a few pennies, some junk, some clad and lots of bullet cases.
Moved on to a favourite spot in South Hagley for an hour and scored six silvers.....one being a coin spill of two sixpences and one threepence (one sixpence in almost circulated condition). Also two NZ shillings and one NZ threepence....plus lots of pennies including an Aussie and a "Ship" half penny.
All in all, a pretty successful three hour hunt.

Happy hunting.

Took the family out of town for a picnic. Had a hunt (as you do) at a small country town park.
Scored five silvers including a sweet, but very worn 1888 Brit Shilling. Also hit a coin spill with three NZ half crowns, one NZ florin, an Aussie penny and two NZ pennies.........bit gutted that none of the coins were silver.
Also amongst the coins and trash, was a cool old lead bullet. Not sure of the age or what type of gun this was used with.

Happy hunting.

Hunted Sth Hagley tonight with Foiled again and l0gic. The weather was doing it's best to dampen the hunt but failing big time.
Real hard going in an area that's been well searched......but still managed to squeak out four silvers, nine bucks spendies and a cool base metal superman badge.
Happy hunting.
