Lots of small parks around there.

Hi Guardian. Yea I went to Sydenham park once and got myself a few old coins and also my favourite silver ring from there! I was with Hunter and he scored an old gothic florin. It was the site of the first A & P shows in like the 1860's!
I heard a few guys were there one day and got told to move on so I havnt been again...
I did also do a wander around the site of that school but everything there is demolished and was concrete mainly so no good for detecting unfortunately

I was curious about there as well, might want to be cautious GS

unless it was a council member telling them to move on i would have said move on yourself pal while ya can lol im sure a quick phone call to the council telling them i want to clean the trash from the park and donate some finds to the museum would be enough to get the green light :) its all about asking before doing 9 out of 10 times you will get what you want. i hate people telling me i shouldnt be detecting exspecially old people who are just jelous they are to old to do it without a hip injury lol i think there just jelous because were having fun and are still young enough to do it, either that or they think your killing grass or something some people are really rude aye so i give it back 10 fold exspecially if i have permission to be there......

No one likes to be told where they can and can't go. Public places especially. I get a bit agitated myself and try to remember that as much fun as it may be ticking someone off it's not always in our best interest. Besides you never know what extent someone else may be willing to go to get there point across and we don't want to see you on the news (not unless you find some awesome treasure). *8^)

Grounds keepers are a funny bunch some are great others very protective of their passion/time they have put into it. I have only been denied once and the reason was pathetic, just wasn't worth causing waves. It's usually the sticky beak public upstarts that annoy me the most!

Hi John, Yeah.....but I think it depends on knowing where to look and being methodical and slow with the search.
Quite a lot of the silver I have had both out of Hagley and at other parks (local and rural) has been from very trashy, heavily used areas. Area's I think in the past, have been overlooked by MD'ers because of the trash.
It's a matter of getting to know your detector and being able to identify the good sounds and numbers, between the trash signals.........very time consuming but ultimately, quite rewarding.

Finally got out for a hunt around South Hagley this afternoon. It's been nearly two months since "Delta" has worked her magic.....and once again, she didn't disappoint! Amongst the other assortment of bootee, she sniffed out nine silvers including a beaut 1882 shilling, and two fantastic 1908 Brit sixpences (from different holes). Pretty bloody stoked and looking forward to some more regular hunting from now on.

H/H all.

Well done mate.

I too had a 1908 sixpence from Hagley this afternoon. How weird is that?

My greatest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my collection for what I told her it cost me.

Just a quick update from yesterday's hunt. The Military button is a standard issue British WW1 tunic button, with Lion and Unicorn either side of a badge and crown....first non-NZ button I've found.
It appears also that both the 1882 Brit Shilling and the two 1908 Brit Sixpences are worth a bit more dosh than other years around that time.......maybe the majority of the minting for these years was sent out to the colonies which makes them rarer in the UK???

Met up at North Hagley tonight with Foiled again and L0gic. It's been awhile and it was good to catch up.
Managed a couple of hours hunting, before the crap weather hits tomorrow. A few cool finds including an 1868 sixpence and a neat old Navy League badge. Dug loads of trash also tonight......more than usual for some reason.
Happy Hunting all.
