Ive done no hunting in Kaiapoi whatsoever yet but if I find a silver bracelet there one day you'll know! Its a reasonably old town so perhaps the riverbank could be good for a nosey if suitable?!!
I must say I guess chch is a good area with the old untouched and accessible parks, and squares like Cranmer which have seen a lot of history go by.
I love just getting out numerous times a week and getting into it! Happy to travel to new possible places too in hope of new exciting treasures! Arrrr!
Last night was my shortest hunt ever at about an hour and luckily got three silvers! Plus a modern 5 pence which got me going til I found out it was indeed modern.
I shot a pic and included a loveheart locket I found night before last which looked GOLD but isnt :-(

Oh, does anyone have an idea on the biggish lead piece? Looks like screws sticking up but cant be with being made of lead surely. Maybe just a decoration bit of something?

Sun is shining here today, drying things out-cant wait for a full on hunt tonight at Hagley! Gunna find me a half crown ... or better!!

Went on a mish with Hunter, Ash and Poohbear to a misty Hagley park last night.
I cant complain with my finds-a few old pennies about $6 for Mcds for lunch today, two silvers (I really was looking for an old british silver and got my wish). As we were walking along I kept asking the boys if they had found jewellery as it was a spot frequented by college kids. Eventually Hunter scored a cool looking bangle. It took til everyone had gone and I was walking back to car to happen upon the solid 925 ring I found.
Great night!

Probably the most interesting find for me was a two headed coin! (well two pennies nicely affixed together!) Obviously an old tricksters item from the day haha!

Cool-the 1875 half penny is a Heaton mint coin..only 1.25 million circulated.
Thats got me up to 3 Heaton coins to date!

If the 80's detectorists didnt get it all, i doubt we will either ;)

The park is huge, and grid searching the entire area to the centimeter would take a loooong time.

I doubt any of us down here would ever make the call that "Hagley is now empty",
the thought of that actually makes me laugh ;)

I didnt get called up today for work, so ill be out there somewhere tonight :)

Well been out a coupla times but not anything too exciting. Had a hard slog around Spreydon Domain for two silvers...I think perhaps its been topsoiled as for a place around since 1915 was hard going with just rubbish and recentish coins. (dug 28 coins all up)

Last night went to Little Hagley which didnt turn out as planned, ie lots of silvers!!, but was a button and musket ball night...
Possibly a diamond earring but have my doubts! Edit-(uumm, nup. Stupid me-its a button! lol)
guna try Sydenham Park tonight, hopefully still a few buried treasures there!
Anyhoo, heres a pic

Just been looking at the buttons as some have names ie the little round one has "H. Hill 3 Old Bond St"
Doing a quick bit of research brung me up this link which may be useful to some if you....

http://www.ukdfd.co.uk/p...buttonsgtom.html#anchorg

Hmm..another button has 'W Strange & co' on it. Found the following background info. So much info/history to be learned from a simple button...!!

Met up with poohbear tonight for a coupla hour hunt.
Dug 27 coins for 3 nz pennies, a 1922 Australian penny and a 1857 token. It's a 'M. Somerville wholesale grocer Auckland' one. Very cool but a bit aged as you can imagine. Funny, creamer posted a crisyboy find of a Chch token up there and here I find a Auckland one down here lol
Hope the weather is good tomorrow, I have an old spot just out of town I'm guna check out which could be holding some great stuff. Pretty excited, confident I'll post some goodies from a full day hunt!!

Oh I forgot about the nice 925 stamped silver pendant and necklace I got tonight!

So! Yesterday morning my hunch on an old spot came through with probably my best day on silver coins! Spent about two hours there-not as long as i'd hoped i would.
Also met up with Hunter for a look around Hagley and scored two more silvers. Happy days!
A few nights before, I found a cool 925 ring with a wicked eyeball!

Fast breaking news story from our reporter on the scene!
Have jumped back in the car after a 3hr hunt.
Couldn't wait to report finding;
A threepence
A sixpence (2)
A shilling
A florin
A half crown
No full crown, but all nice silver coins!
Will throw up a pic tomorrow. Had to hang around trying to find the elusive threepence to complete the set lol
