Such a lovely night here yesterday so I busted out the shorts and crocs and jumped knee deep in the Avon. Ive always thought about it but this is the first time doing it. Did just a small area but scored a number of coins-no silvers...yet!! But just like an inch under the gravels an 1862 half penny! Heaps of pull tabs, some NZ pennies (nice and shiny too), half pennies and a coupla 20c. Good fun-will do again soon!
Got outta the water after about 45 mins and did a nice dry land search. Rewarded with a threepence, 3x sixpences pocket spill, a stirling 6d and my first GOLD ring that AINT 9 carat- a wide band 15 carat GOLD ring weighing 3.9g. Nice old, probably Victorian piece! WOOP!

Great results Foiled.
15k stopped in 1931 from memory so it must be quite old.
Looking forward to more Avonfinds. Any eels?

Yea you're right MK. This has '15c' but no hallmarks but apparently they did this on custom made pieces back in the day to avoid tax or duty. Thanks Google haha.
And I'm glad to say no freekin eels were seen!! Guaranteed I'll make acquaintances with some one day tho-uuuuggghh!

There's another to find and I'm gunna find it!

Back to the same (dry land!) area last night for a few hours.
Hard slog but great rewards again with two intact GOLD gilt brooches and a cool belt buckle style clip which I reckon could be for suspenders or perhaps ladies thigh high stockings?! 4 silvers which is sweet, couple old buttons and some more musket balls.

Great couple of hunts there Jason. That 15ct sure is a fantastic find...not a common GOLD grading by any means. Gotta be VERY happy with that!
That "dry land" area sure is hard going, so you did very well last night. I've hunted that area for a whole day in the past with very little reward.....so well done matey.

Cheers DBro. There is actually no hallmarks...just '15c' stamped in a rectangle. Wish there was to positively i.d it, but apparently some early custom made jewellery didnt get hallmarks to avoid paying duty.

There's another to find and I'm gunna find it!

hi jason, you will only be able to do the dry sand no chance in the wet its quite mineralised you need a pi machine to get anywhere deep enough,i dont know how efficient the beach grading is but my guess is they get most of the fresh drops, you need to be out in the swimming drop zones, also the parks have been well landscaped over the years not easy to find anywhere thats not been touched oldest coin i have found is 1910 but i live a fair way out from the city ,cheers roy
