Great assortment of finds there dude. The old Chch token wins the "best find award" in my books every time (except maybe for a Gothic florin or a sovereign of course)!....... just love the local history associated with them.
Nice work Jason.

Got down to South Hagley last night for a good few hours. Joined by coinnut and we covered a bit of ground.
First good target was a 1900 shilling woop!
Ended up with 5 silvers.
Couple of really good finds is the large size 9ct GOLD mens ring-sweeeet!, and also a token from the mid/late 1860's which is in remarkable condition from the looks! Its now soaking in olive oil to see how it goes but looks to have nice strong detail and no corrosion-was very deep!!. See link for details...

http://museumvictoria.co...apers-timaru-new-zealand

In the pics there a cool piece of hallmark silver which is actually part of a smoking pipe (1896). Found it out in the wops of mid Canterbury, and also a cool kiwi charm.

I think next time out for me is Monday, so happy hunting out there chaps!

Well have a been out a few times for a few bits n bobs but been a bit lazy posting!
So...went out to North Hagley for a couple hours last night. Even braved a 5 minute wind/hail/rain storm hehe.
Quite amazing-until I was heading back to the car had found two silvers and both Aussies threepences!-A NZ sixpence got me to three silvers.
Also got a cool lead soldier intact but gun not far from breaking, a 1911 aussie h'penny and another Turnbull Timaru token!

Stuff is still out there, so go hard peeps!

Edit-oh yeah I musta left a 3d at home so no pic hehe

Had a great 3 hrs down at north hagley this morn!
Did a walk up and back along a dirt path and did really well-no gold dont get excited!
But the first three coins were 1800's including 2 vicky silvers in the same hole!
Then hit all british coins until i was heading back towards car and scored the nz stuff.
Found an awesome "ANZAC & CDC No. 4 Queen" medalette! Have to do some research on that!!
Also got a 925 silver earring, quite big, hinged and with poss a pearl and some kind of stone. I guess not a big fat diamond hehe
Great day when you can get 10 silvers in 3 hrs at hagley. also incl in photos is the 1953 aussie threepence I forgot to include the other day.

Get out there boys!

Storming it Jason!......what an epic hunt. Love that wee medalette. I'll see what I can find out about it too. Should be some mention in the Morel's NZ Medalette "Bible".
This sort of thing is exactly what interests me most......local and national WW1 history at it's best.
Oohhh.....by the way, love those silvers too mate.
Keep going hard there chop....your definately winning!

Hey mate, found it but very little info in the book
. As you probably worked out, it is undated, has a blank reverse and is copper. It is rated as R4 (scarce) on the rarity scale and as such, is worth around $25- $35 in good nic. Sorry I can't provide any further information as there is very limited detail. Still, a very cool find....very envious! ;).....see pics for some detail.

Well it was a beaut night for detecting!
Met up with number8, l0gic and coinnut-good company cheers boys.
I had a good night starting with a nz sixpence in my second hole. after that I thought I'd mosey over to where they are installing new all weather cricket wickets. So a 22 yard long strip has had about the top 7-10 inches stripped off. I reckoned it was worth a skim over and was very lucky to find two vicky sixpences and an HJ Hall token! Probably wouldnt of found these otherwise as the sixpences were about 2-3 inches down again and the token was right on the edge and about another 6 inches down. In the stripped off bit there were also a few 1 and 2c just laying pretty much on the surface! I even scanned the dirt pile and got a pulltab and a 2c haha! I bet there was silvers in there though!!
So all in all a great night with 5 sixpences and a thin silver ring.

Well after F all activity in the last four odd months, things have settled down and I might get some detecting and posting in! First find was my "Adventures of foiled again" thread-about 20 inches down covered in dust!
So yea only been out a handful of times and just twice this year! Jeez got some catching up to do-looks to be some awesome finds from everyone . Be some time to get through them but I will haha.

First hunt of the year a coupla weeks back hooked up with coinnut and was happy to end up with 5 silvers from South Hagley. Boy oh boy its hard going these days under them trees!
