Had a solid 4 hrs of hunting at south hagley with coinnut tonight. Hard work but paid off with some nice finds.
Best find was a first for me-a nice 1951 Australian Florin woop!
Note all the clean 1c pieces!! Who planted 14 of those suckers in one spot?!! What a hole lol!

Sweet finds mate. It is amazing how much stuff keeps coming out of Hagley park. Maybe I should try the Auckland Domain. I might get kicked out as it is a heritage site. Has anyone tried the Auckland Domain?

As far as I know that is an 'off limits' area as a named heritage site :(

NO WAY!!

If it is a listed heritage site then it is off limits. I agree the artifacts will just slowly corrode away in them but that is beside the point, I like my hobby and I want to keep doing it in the future.

If people started nighthawking like Goldstalker suggested then detecting will get a bad name and the crack down will destroy our hobby. All it will take is for some member of a historic society (and there are a lot of them) to spot you and all hell will break loose. Respect our detecting ethics and leave the heritage sites alone.

Anyway there are plenty of non-listed sites to hunt that have only to be discovered by a bit of research. Even around the edges of the protected sites are OK (if permission is granted by land owner) and just as many finds can found.

DON'T DESTROY IT FOR THE REST OF US!

To find out if a place is a protected Historical Site, look it up here: http://www.historic.org.nz/theregister/registersearch.aspx?sc_lang=en

I agree with Shilo. There is no point in upsetting the historical society or local councils possibly resulting in banning our hobby from all parks.
Thanks for the link Shilo.

On a roll, keep them coming.
Those 1 cent pieces, i've been throwing some on the driveway to see how long they take to disappear! Someone can dig them back up one day.

Met up with l0gic and expat for a hunt round north hagley this evening, good to catch yas again.
Actually did alright for a part of hagley i thought may have been topsoiled or something as have breezed thru just a couple of times without much exciting.
Some good stuff included a nice 1891 sixpence, 1933 & 1945 sixpences, 1934 shilling, 1885 penny, 1920 & 1926 aussie half pennys
Well worth having a good look as theres a ton of metal in the ground there!

Our finds look almost the same, except I didn't get any of those wee silvers!

Good hunting!

Out on another adventure with coinnut last night along the river in north hagley (sorry l0gic-didnt see ya post!)
Scored 6 silvers which was awesome but a few were damaged! Nice shilling though and the sixpence is a low mintage year.
The gold coloured ring thing is actually part of a watch face-I shudda turned it over.
Oldest coin was an 1876 Heaton half penny. Being along the riverbank the coins are a bit munted but hopefully the silvers will clean up!
The half crown, shilling and a penny were all in one hole-wheres the hole with a shite load of sovereigns???!!!
