Well done Jase, its horrifying to think what we leave behind just because the signal isnt as crisp as we'd like it to be. A good lesson for us there.

My greatest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my collection for what I told her it cost me.

Nice work Jason. That's pretty much the idea I worked with on our last night hunt. Certainly seems to pay off!
Now me lad.......get out there and get some of those big ole silvers that we know are still lurkin around. ;)

Right. At work today so heaps of time to write a post!
Some photos from last three hunts (havent been out much lately)
First pics from a hunt at Hagley by the lake. I think an awesome find is the Dunkirk Veterans badge.

BACKGROUND

Operation 'Dynamo' was the code name given to the evacuation of the Allied Armies from Dunkirk and neighbouring beaches between 26 May and 4 June 1940 - the celebrated 'Miracle of Dunkirk'.

During that short period some 338,000 troops reached safety in England after being evacuated mainly in Royal and Merchant Navy ships, aided by Allied ships and a mixed fleet of little ships, from Dunkirk and from the beaches stretching 10 miles eastwards from the entrance to Dunkirk harbour.

Most of those saved subsequently took part in operations in various parts of the world and helped to liberate Europe in 1944 and 1945.

The New York Times of 1 June 1940 wrote "so long as the English tongue survives the word Dunkirk will be spoken with reverence", and the phrase 'Dunkirk spirit' has become synonymous with refusing to give up in time of crisis.

THE 1940 DUNKIRK VETERANS' ASSOCIATION

Was one of the first ex-Service organisations to be formed from personnel who served in the Forces of the Crown during the Second World War; it was founded at Leeds in 1953 and registered as a War Charity, and its Central Benevolent Fund is registered with the Charity Commission.

Last night went to Little Hagley with coinnut (didnt he do well!)
A few musket balls, button, a lone threepence and a piece of hallmark 375 GOLD something! (could be a hairpin/tie clasp?? something-well half of something!

As I had to go to work today I thought a quick hunt (and while the weather holds) so went to South Hagley and scored a few silvers and extremely happy to get an 1871 Gothic Florin! Havent found a big silver in a while and I love these things!

Keep at it boys n girls!

I worked as a commercial fisherman in Penzance UK for a number of years & one boat called "The Excellent" an old wooden beam trawler was used in the evacuation! It was still going strong 9yrs ago not sure about today.

Keep up the good work mate, see ya out there.

OH YEAH!!
Dont get excited people. I havent been out much lately-My main day (Monday) was rained off gadnabbit! Did pop down to Brighton beach for 45 mins last night to walk the dog and see what the pirates had left behind, but they only left a rusty earring, a dollar and two bottle tops. That was it-only four targets-thought maybe the storm had lowered the sand level but I guess not really.

My original OH YEAH is from giving my gold bug some loving today at work. As a few of yous know, my Ground Grab/+ & - /pin point buttons have been all up the wotsit for months n months-not a major-still found stuff but just annoying that something aint right. Anyways I pulled the casing apart today and simply cleaned the board with some 20 buck contact & circuit board cleaner and whaddaya know...back to 100% function! Pretty stoked with that seeing as I'm not an overly electronic minded person.
Gave the whole unit and my pro-pointer a nice clean and tidy so now Im itching to get out and get everything dirty again!!

So I might be have to find some time tonight and see what I can discover!

Hi Jason. I dont think that the storm we had was the one that takes out the sand. I think there have been only 2-3 occasions in the last 3 years that changed the beach in a major way. I have photos on my phone taken at nth canty beaches so I can tell what the sand level is if I turn up.
The time it was at its best the weather was appalling and I was too busy! That was about 20 months ago from memory. I think the sand level can vary by up to 2 meters. My best finds have been in the dunes along the tracks. Everyone walks along at least one of these for access. Most common find - full drink cans people bury to keep cool! My old Fisher 1266x can detect these at near a meter. Dug some bloody deep holes. Also you can spot money sticking out of wind blown areas including the top of dunes.

When the weather is right im a starter for a big hunt. I think there is more at the beach than any park in NZ!

Cheers Mike.

For the best sand removing storms, look for wind directions that blow close to the direction the beach runs. If the waves are coming straight onto the beach then chance are they are building instead of removing sand. But if the waves are hitting at a 45 deg angle then each wave is scoring away some sand & exposing the finds! If the storm coincides with a king tide all the better.

I just had to head out tonight to test my shiny clean and fully operation GB so off to south hagley for an hr or so I went-bloody glad I did! Didnt get to go exactly where I wanted coz of rugby training so just did a well covered field beside them.
Scored a beauty florin, a 925 bracelet & locket, 2 sixpences and a threepence! Thats friggin awesome-I love my machine again!! Also in the pic is the big rusty hoop earring from last night. Just junk..
Got em soaking in cloudy ammonia while I do this post then eat my pork chop thats cooking away..great night!
