Totally with you there Jason..........you just never know.
These days, I dig pretty much every signal over 60 on my Delta 4000. I will even sometimes dig the low numbers (like 44) if they are banging consistent on the target.
A mate of mine dug a 44 showing less than an inch deep. Thinking it would be a ball of foil or something similar, he dug it anyway and ended up with an eleven-diamond gold wedding band!.....you just never know! Doing this, I know my GOLD Sovereign is out there just waiting for me!!
Decide what your target low numbers are (depending on your machine) and DIG EVERYTHING!!
Oh and yes......I always walk away with a generous pocket-full of rubbish.

Too true. Good philosophy to dig every solid signal. We've all probably found something good that we were sure was rubbish! Now that stuff is a bit harder to find its time to see what good stuff we overlooked haha!

Yeah, definitely getting harder out there.
On the other end of the numbers scale, last week I had a 96-98 banging hard at less than two inches (yes, we are talking metal detecting still for those with a grubby mind!!). I thought it had to be a big ole nasty piece of junk. I dug it anyway thinking "at least I've helped the council get rid of some rubbish".....and bugger me, if it wasn't a fairly rare J.CARO, Ironmongers, Chch token (1860-64).............less than 2 inches deep!..................................The moral......DIG EVERYTHING!

Wicked-found my oldest coin tonight! Beats my 1817 shilling by 11 years.
Went to the woods of Hagley for an hour and a half. Didnt find many coins but was happy to find an 1806 George 111 penny and in the same hole an 1848 Victorian penny.
a coupla other pennies and two threepences (yay the silvers!) and a few 1s n 2s. oh and 2 bucks.
Also got what I think was gold plated or guilded or something ring.
Might have to pull a late one night hunting, possibly tomorrow night and give Hagley a real good going over lol. If ya keen to join let me know

Amazing. Must be a really old part of Hagley that spot. Just goes to show tho..........I've been back within metres of that spot several times since, and never had another find there. It only takes the swing of the coil to miss a good find by millimetres!! Again, well done Jason.

Went for a night hunt at Hagley with number 8 wire last night. Great night for it.
Was going great with 3 and a 1/3 silvers til it got dark...headlamp got a bit dull so off to the car for some other batteries I had-put em in and theyre all farked lol. Oh well pin-pointer and cell phone light it is! Good to hunt just on tones like a blind man.

Anyways got some good stuff. One hole had a 1875 "heaton" halfpenny, checked it again and still a beep. Crossed my fingers for a silver and out pops a very nice 1878 shilling! Shiny on one side and greyed on the other but great condition apart from a fricken gark I put on her DOH!
Another HJ Hall token and usual 1c & 2c.

Cant wait for the next time

Yeah.....really enjoyable night hunt with you FA. Always a big buzz gettin those silvers. That Brit shilling is nice.......not too worn but bloody gutted for you mate about the "gakk" on it. Still, I picked up two silvers last night.......one very aged looking 1945 NZ shilling, that had been badly roughed up by the acid from the pine tree that it was beside. And a sweet little 1889 threepence that I managed to gouge a chunk out of.
Best find for me was the token at about 9 inches. It's a Holloway Pills and Ointment 1857 British token (quite common) but still.....another to add to the token collection!........man I love getting the old tokens, a real buzz.

The coin/token that you put the ? beside in the photo..........that is very cool. I'd love to know more about that if you can find any info. What's on the other side of it?
