Some really nice coins above from Hagley - I might have to move up there yet!

Nice to see those coins which predate the actual settlement and now I keep looking in here to see what you Hagleyites have turned up next!

Keep finding them and keep posting them because I just love seeing them.

For metal detectorists down here I was once told that Johnny Jones had some Pennies minted for his private use and his whaling colony predated Dunedin by 8 years - maybe I could come to an arrangement one day with someone whom I already know and trust as I know within very close proximity to where apparently the only examples found were discovered about fifty years ago and the area has as not yet been developed in any way. An old timer told me when I got my first Garrettt Deepseeker about 1980 but I never bothered going there.

I havnt been on here or out hunting in ages for medical reasons so if anyone wants a partner in crime sometime, I'm up for a hunt night or day.....or a trip to the coast for gold. Havea detector, 2 sluices and all the other gear needed to get some colour. 027 3700293. Cheers. Chris.

The coin/token that you put the ? beside in the photo..........that is very cool. I'd love to know more about that if you can find any info. What's on the other side of it?

I was writing about that in my post but deleted it out. Looking at it, it looked a bit different-smaller than a penny, bigger than a half, almost looked silver plated, the head had worn funnt to just reveal an outline...
But looking at it closely and with my mate google, I'm sure is just a worn penny from around 1850ish. Ill bring it to show n tell for a look.

Had a couple hours in Hagley yesdy arvo-great weather!
Scored the coupla silvers Im always chasing and a couple of odds n sods...
A Reeves & Sons London bottle top, two old pennies stuck together (literally-and still are!), coupla bits silver jewellery.
Two quite interesting bits are the Jimmie Allen Flying Cadet badge (some radio show or something from the 50's I think from my one minute of research) and Im buzzed by finding the "BERKS" badge> Its in the same style and size as NZ Rifles and Mounted Rifles so it think it may be something to do with Berkshire military or something but again quick research, so need to get it sussed

Dude. Seriously. This is freaky.

I was in Wellington for a few days so took the Garrett and the F2 with me and went hunting Saturday with a friend.

I pulled out an old Returned Soldiers Assoc badge (the bigger version) AND a Jimmie Allen Flying Cadet badge. Plus 3 thruppences.

I donated the Jimmie Allen badge to http://radioheritage.net/ - they said that the Jimmie Allen show was broadcast on the ZB network in the 40's or 50's.

Well done Jason. I think the BERKS badge is a reference to the guys like me who think there is nothing much left to find at Hagley.

My greatest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my collection for what I told her it cost me.

Oroplata- Just freaky indeed!!
Expat-haha! Theres more stuff to find still!

Speaking of stuff... Not quite as on fire as Number 8 with his many and big silvers, however I found 11 silver coins last night and a silver chain with the Lion stamp on each link-this was found beside an 1891 Sixpence which was in turn found beside an 1896 sixpence!
Also found a french silver Napolean 111 either 20 or 50 centime. Very worn and has a hole so I guess it was someones pendant/lucky charm.

All in all a good night weather wise again and silver wise!

Theres still more boys-go out n get it!

Well done man....11 silvers is not too shabby at all. Twenty-four between us over 3 1/2 hours is a pretty good hit ratio!
The chain is a good score and must be early 1900's or a bit older.
A really enjoyable hunt......looking forward to the next!

Yeah I've got a steel 27 T Lakes modified type rod. In a traditional style, trying my hardest not to say rat rod. :)

11 Silvers in one hunt! I think I only have about 11 silvers in total! And I've found a damn few coins and rings. Got a $27.50 pocket spill along the bank of the heathcote the other day so that was good!

Low n slow boys!
Hadnt planned on going out tonight but the dog was beggin to go out so headed for a quick adventure to south hagley.
Dug a bit of trash as I thought Id see what turned up on any half decent signal. First find was spozed to be a pulltab but was a threepence sweet. Then dug a bit of a scratchy one to find 3 silvers! Woop!
Ended up with 5 silvers and a 1948 threepence (with one of two junk rings I found).
Hopefully a bit of inspiration for yas...just dress warmly from now lol
