Yay got my regular Mondays off again so tried the mud hunt thing down heathcote in ferrymead. Man, hard work and gave up after half an hr with nothing to show.
Went to a rural domain and got 3 silvers including a 1816-1820 shilling but can't read date. I have one I found a while back that was 1817 so is one of my oldest coins.

Went to Hagley tonight and met Roy and number8 down there. Didn't find much but after it got dark went for a mish on my lonesome lol under old pine trees and scored a 1887 3d, and two more in same hole 1909 & 1919. I was heading back to car and Coinnut randomly showed up on his way to work. Not long after that then i turned up a 1933 shilling.Last hole back at the car turned up a returned services association badge with a crown on top and a number 50. On the back is a number which i think learned from this forum should be the service mans I'd number. I'll do some research!

Added pic- Theres the RSA badge..not sure if they are silver?, and those silvers from under pine trees went black after soaking in ammonia. Ive had that happen with coins from under trees like that doh! Maybe a longer soak n scrub!

Had some sweeping around Hagley again last night. Met Andrew and Roy (nice half crown find!). I seem to be on a silver streak at the mo and recovered 9 and a bit silver coins. Funny thing is that Andrew found the other bit of the very coin piece I found! Too funny!
1 nz penny
1920 Australian penny
1873 & 1899 penny
Couple of half pennies
1917 aust threepence
1933,1942,1943 x2 threepence
1908,1920,1921 Brit 3d
1922 Brit sixpence
Half a 1937 nz shilling
Thanks again Andrew for the loan of the battery when my pro pointer died!

Well done mate.....nice little hoard of silver for you last night. I think at least 6 of your 9 were found within a half hour stint....me thinks you're back into it!
I'm still wondering when my turn will come (sigh....).....oh well, after you left I scored an 1878 Brit six pence to go with my NZ shilling piece that matches your half, so I don't feel quite so bad.............what are the odds of finding that matching bit!!! It was a bit dark to be absolutely sure but I think that the piece I scored was at least 5-6 metres away from the spot you dug your bit...... Lotto ticket being bought as we speak!
Thanks for your company Jason.......a very enjoyable hunt.

......and here's the other bit....

Had a day off today so braved the shite weather for a couple hr drive around the sticks looking for that next secret spot! Didn't find one so thought I better find something reasonable for the day so went to a place known in some circles as 'the silver mine'. Got nine silvers so that's ok but biggest was only a 1900 shilling so in this time of big silver discoveries they're not worth posting about. Hehe :-)

All silvers are worth posting about Jason!!
You're a brave man going out in that weather and staying long enough to score nine. I was home all day but spent the time looking out of the window and wondering what might have been.

My greatest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my collection for what I told her it cost me.

Ok Roy heres the pics, and wooal expat-thats quite evocative your last sentence! Almost like a sad poem or song hehe! Nevermind, hopefully some better weathers a comin'!

As you can see, some silvers are quite stained even after a few hours in ammonia and pennies are munted...typical of this place I visited.

The soil that 1900 shilling came out of must have some wicked pH

Still nice though. :)

Yea you know it expat, I had a feeling I'd get something there although not as easy as the early visits that's for sure! I've already soaked that shilling for a few hours so maybe I'll give it and a few other stained silvers a go in ammonia for a couple days...
I think I'll have to forgo the Bering sea gold punch up for some more detecting tonight somewhere
There's another to find and I'm gunna find it!

Heres the last 2 nights of treasures from Hagley. Got a silver a night so thats ok!
The best find I think is the Rechenpfennig- its a jeton or toy coin/counting coin token. It dates from 1863-1916 (I think that was the dates).
So I guess the story behind this is a young Canterbury soldier served in the First World War, picked up a souvenir from Nuremberg, luckily survived the perils of war and women, returned to Christchurch and lost this!

Hey Jason. Super finds there again mate. The old girl just keeps giving and giving...... Love that Rechenpfennig......you must have been totally buzzed when you lifted that from it's earthen tomb. Well done mate.
Sound like a nasty old weather bomb this weekend, so I guess I'll be reflecting on what could have been, pouring over some past treasure trove and doing a bit of research!

A two hour hunt in the country turned up a good handful of silver!
The ring has a blue stone, so I guess is a sapphire engagement ring?
