yea mate ive had that a couple of times now, mainly aluminium cans. ive also come across small holes that have been put back cleanly but the grass has died. i think its important not to completly dig out the plug but to leave a little attached and fold it over. just my opinion.

Man, sooo glad I went to Hagley last night! I know the northern boys are prolly like 'yea yea sick of hearing!' but damn this park has more stuff than you'd imagine!
I got quite a variety of different things. In one hole I found a 1910 US 1 cent with a 1925 Farthing-both stuck together in a little leather pouch.
Best finds were what I think is a NZ Artillery hat badge, an 1889 Double Florin, 1916 Florin and a 1906 Half Crown. Glad I got in on some of the big silver coin action being going on here lately!
In all I got 14 silvers and a couple of them are in really nice condition.
The Kirkcaldie and Stains token dates about 1875 apparently. Pretty good nick for a token.
A few pennies etc-oldest 1875.
A handfull of odds including what I assume is a GOLD plated small ladies watch-missing half the strap, a metal spinning top with like 'T2' 'P1' 'TA' etc on it (is that dungeons and dragons or something??), a GOLD plated(?) broochy type thing, a cool enamelled thing with a horse and rider, and a busted silver plate skull ring-good for the pirates treasure chest arrrr!!

It's for a betting game. T2 means "take 2" p1 "place one" TA "take all"

I found one the same in south hagley.

We could play the game after a hunt with all the pennies found :)

Or everyone bring a silver shilling on Sunday, and we'll play for them all. :)

Excellent score Jason, some real big bits in there too. Well done.

I love your pics Drunkbrother, they are always spot on and real funny. You must hunt for hours for some of those.

My greatest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my collection for what I told her it cost me.

Im starting to feel guilty now bout the tin cans and large unknown metal objects i leave underground up here in the north which i dig with me mini shovel.. no time for the garden trowel up here.
Guess i should elaborate further before i cop flack. I generally only hunt the beachs as they are abundant up here, hence the mini shovel. Often i will dig half a metre down and find remains of beach fire piles that are ladin with tin cans, alluminium foil and glass. Not the thing you want to find but they are there. To dig these up and remove the debri is virtually impossible at that depth so they are covered back over. If i get past half a metre and dont find anything i generally give up thru fear of mines or falling into china.. I try to return to my grassy spots to check for any dead bits or just to make sure ive cleaned up properly. Being one of the only detectorists in kerikeri it pays to do the right thing which i would anyhows.

what creamer said...[Often i will dig half a metre down and find remains of beach fire piles that are ladin with tin cans, alluminium foil and glass. Not the thing you want to find but they are there. To dig these up and remove the debri is virtually impossible at that depth so they are covered back over.] ...

yeah I have done the same sometimes, esp if I don't bring my backpack and just my bum bag as one aluminum can will fill my bum bag. These days I bring a backpack as a matter of course and I fill it with alimunium cans, bits of iron, even a frying pan the other day and an oven tray. I dump it unceremoniously at my front door leaving my house looking like a tip until I sort it into the various bins for scrap metal $$

Well done Jason. After I left you yesterday, I hadnt even got the car out of Hagley carpark when you phoned to tell me you had found that halfcrown. Today, after hunting with Metal Mikey in the same area, and scoring a few more silvers of my own I left Mike to return home and... you guessed it...a text telling me that he had just found 2 halfcrowns and a shilling in the same hole. Again, I hadnt even made it out of the carpark. Next time I'll make sure I'm the last to leave.

My greatest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my collection for what I told her it cost me.

Holy cow that's crazy! Well done on the silvers boys!
I just took my dog for a walk round beckenham park and of course took the gbug-very surprised to get a 1881 3d, a 1912 sixpence and a 1944 threepence. A few pennies too oldest one 1879.

Number 8- yep backs not bad, good enough now to dig treasure that's for sure! Will give it a workout a few nights next week too!! Hope to catch ya!
