Hi there Metalkiwi. Always silver about. Looking for that pre 1800 coin. Must be one out there somewhere.

Is that a tooth (broken) in the old pendant ?

Hi Metalkiwi. To be honest i just dont know. Its heavy because of the metal stay and the actual tooth shape i guess has pale pinkish brownish streaks/lines/blemishes running down it. It feels ceramic when you rub the broken end on your teeth. Again, its heavy and it looks old.

Ok went for a long hunt yesterday dropped the kids off at kindy and re-visited some parks I had previously hunted.
4 parks later and I came out with the big $4. Two $2 coins from two parks. Verdict - might as well have just gone for a snooze!

On the plus side, I guess it means I did a pretty good job first time around!

Haha I hit the beach yesterday for half an hour (would have like to have spent more time but shouldn't have spent that time) and managed $2.10

Might be the tooth from someone's mother in law.

They are very collectable when complete. Bit of Kiwiana I think

A very old mother in law... I will take it up to this ceramic place and see what they think. If its not ceramic then possibly its a fossill. I doubt it as it has a shiny glaze on it.
Planned to hit my special old time silver coin spot today after work but it is steadilly raining here. I can hear thunder as well so i cant see much fossicking going on this week. Might have to hold out for a two day mission next week with Chrisyboy if we can. Goin for GOLD.

it could be a tumbbled tooth shane which would then shine like that..as a member of the local rock and mineral club i have seen plenty of polished fosilized teeth and other things...mostly sharks teeth but others as well..and if done right they can definatly shine like that.

#69 Trip. Back to the scene of the 1834 coin find.

I made the decision to redo the spot where i found the 1834 silver sixpence and dig every signal. It was low tide so i buzzed way down at the very low tide line. Sandy and rocky and not an easy task as i wanted my sensitivity on the detector turned up high, as we all do, as not to miss anything. Amongst the 20 pieces of lead and ringpulls i managed a small ring and 20 coins. 3 were silver. A 1933 3p, a 1933 shilling and neally my best yet, a young QUEEN VICTORIA 1851ish .925 SILVER FLORIN, which is quite worn/corroded and blackened by time. Im starting to think theres more to this spot than i think. A few more visits will tell. 2 goldies, 3 silvers, a 1964 penny, 20 coins all up and a ring.

...and neally my best yet, a young QUEEN VICTORIA 1851ish .925 SILVER FLORIN

The first ever florin (Edw iii 1344) was made of UserPostedImage
gold and not successful, only lasting about a
year. 500 years on in 1849 Q Victoria comisioned
a silver florin lasting till 1967.

UserPostedImageCant show you a picture of the spot as its ''top secret'' at this stage..

Congrats on the silver Shane. Specially the florin.
Keep pounding that spot for sure.
Looking forward to your future finds there.

I recovered an 1888 English Jubilee shilling this morning. :-)
Happy MK.

Well done guys. I went out today and thought I was going to do well with the goldies and well it didn't work out that way. Found the big $12 but I did find a cool little telescope, appears to be brass (unfortunately missing the front lens) and a couple of rings one of which is .925 so not a bad day out I guess.

Excellant coin find there Metalkiwi. I seem to be hooked on this old coin buzz at the moment. Anything pre 1900 is a special find.
Cool telescope there Guardian and two rings as well. Good trip out that one. The last ring i found looked like it came from the 2 dollar shop. Surprised it was in one piece. In saying that no matter what there made of or condition there in its always considered a good find.

Here are a couple photos from the weekend, went out detecting with nzpoohbear. Dug this shilling out from under some pine roots. The way it was situated I could see it (first photo) but could not get my fingers on it. Finally knocked it loose with a stick.

Yes indeed. Good ground shots Rgmcbrid. Those type of shots are not always easy to get clear. I normally take a few and then pick thru the good oneswhen i get home.
Took the tooth knecklace to a local antiques shop and they reckon its made of a ceramic nature. This was my first thought as well. Not the fossill i was hoping but none the less still a nice find.
