Blackened by time.

I have four pre 1900 silver coins and three of them are blackened by time. An 1834 67 and 95. At this stage i prefer to leave them as found. Ive tried various methods to restore them but it doesnt work. I kinda like them as they are. The shiney silver look is sometimes too much to expect, the date is more important. Spend a couple of days looking for small points off interest in the design and eventually you will recognise what you have found, a combination of looking and google on the net. One of these three coins took me two weeks to i.d.

...and three of them are blackened by time

Hi Shane, finally went out for a hunt today. I've been getting serious cabin fever..
Anyways here is todays finds, nothing really special as usual but a couple of interesting bits, an old 20c with the new design is missing from the pic.

I was out with my daughter, so after pushing her on the swings etc actual hunt time would have been about 2 1/2 hours, most of it was in a couple of schools I stumbled upon so not much digging as they were both bark playgrounds.

#67 TRIP. The other side of the bay.

A great weekend away with lady di to the other side of the bay. The russell top 10 holiday park was choice and it was great to be surrounded by water and boats on this historical short peninsula. Plenty of shop fronts right on the waters edge all along the main beach so any form of detecting along there would be inapropiate. However the 3m plus thick shingle beach was there too buzz. If you want to harvest ring pulls thats the place to be, from one end to the other. Found a 2 buck goldie when i first walked on the beach..thought it might have been a sov... another goldie first up at the next spot...nup, and a euro 50 cent goldie first up at the third spot, close.
Awesome place, the locals were chatty so we managed to pick up on a bit of history. Managed to find some pennys and bits and pieces around old trees and the odd short beach or boat ramp. Stopped on the way home at this old pahutakawa tree on/near a tiny beach and had a nice little cleanup.
7 goldies, 5 pennys, 33 coins all up.

...to the other side of the bay

It is indeed. The beachs we visited seemed somewot void of any treasures. In saying that they will be there just well buried. There are plenty of old buildings/trees and such around that would make for great fossicking. If one was a local then you could plan small type hunts in the area being sensitive to the historical nature of the place. Im sure there would be some wonderful treasures there to be found.
Russell oozes with history and one could imagine the tall ships parked up in the bay a couple of hundred years ago. Its been a while since ive been there and i would say we will be back again.

You are most welcome Chrischch. The taking and posting of pics is one of the more enjoyable sides of fossicking.

These are some of the treasures i have fossicked the last month or so.

#68 Trip. Close to a local boatramp.

Went down to a small local beach and boatramp area to do a short piece of beach i spotted 75 meters away. Some of the coins we found were jammed down in the cracks of the dryish type clay under the shollow sand. You could only see the outer rim of them as we dug down. First find was a 1916 silver sixpence. A 1916 6p, 9 coins all up.

Hi there Guardian. The coin lines on a beach are up in the dry sand. Your detector should work fine there. I find very little in the wet sand.
