That ring looks good Shane.
Is it a good silver one or a junker?
From your pics it looks like a nice spot to hunt too.

I am impressed that you find so many coins on beaches like that. I have found the fine sand much more receptive to lost coins - as soon as you drop them they are gone, where as coarse sand/stones don't swallow near as many goodies.

Hi Metalkiwi. Only plated this one. I actually thought that it mite of been GOLD as it came up true on the detector. It wasnt till later that i realised the weight wasnt right which is the big giveaway. Very encrusted when i found it but very exciting as a find like that is.

It amazes me too. It can take several goes at a beach to find the bulk of the coins. The other day i went back to a spot i had done a couple of times before and picked up 70 coins. I found this rather odd and my theory is that some coins move up and down the beach from time to time.
Some are in lines a meter wide and some may be spread over several meters depending on the slope/gradiant. All beachs have coin lines, its just how deep they are. If its a real sandy beach they may be meters down and unreachable whereas the stoney/shell type beachs can bury theres within inches of the surface.

Yes. I expect that if you were at the beach in the right conditions to witness a fierce storm rip up the sand, you might even witness coins being exposed from deep down, and then rolled along to another spot and promptly buried again!

Just gotta come up with a method to be able to detect such events. Maybe a webcam that has coin recognition build in instead of facebook/fbi face recognition. :)

Most of the beachs i hunt in my area do not have thick deep sand. Alot are small rock/pebbles and ground up shell. No matter how many times one buzz's these spots they continue to produce. Especially if your run from a differant angle ie, south to north instead of north to south. Shifting sands is always a call to do a spot again. I found a dozen coins just sitting on the surface at one location recently as the sand had all but blown to the southern end of this beach. Some coins move up and down i guess but most are just there on the coin lines and just need a couple or so runs to pick them up. Go back 6 months later and there will be another haul to collect.

Hi Shane thanks for your PM.
I've been crazy busy lately, had a plan of going to Chch and seeing how much I could find in coins to pay the way, well I ran out of time on the way but managed to get a couple of short hunts in Chch, soil was so dry and crumbly, anyways I managed to find $44 in goldies a silver chain a toy plane and some other bits and pieces. Hunted at my old primary school and found 90c so that was a let down but found an easy $16 in another school just around the corner. Thought the Chch lads would have covered most of the places, apparently there is over 1000 parks there, no doubt the ratio of detector owners to parks is higher though. Would have loved to catch up with some of the other guys but unfortunately my house needed alot more work than I was aware of. Oh well wont be the last trip.

#79 Trip. Top spot near town

Swapped machines with Chrisyboy last weekend and took the ace 250 to a top spot near town (mums place). Went straight to the obvious spot there, an old jacaranda tree. Popped out a couple of matchbox toys and four coins. One a 1995 india 2 rupees which has 11 sides to it, an old u.s.a 5 cent piece and a few bits and pieces. 4 coins all up.

...an old jacaranda tree

Hi there Foiled again. I guess the old ringpull is a byproduct of detecting. I have found many a nice find on the same signal as a ringpull would suggest. If they are heavy in an area you soon learn to bypass them, otherwords, well, do you dig or not, mite as well if your signals are not frequent at the time. One spot, i dug everyting other than the obvious iron and now have my best finds. Took some going but the rewards were and are awesome.

Keep at it, dig all targets. I know of a home made machine that found plenty, more than myself. Sooner or later if you stay with it you will probably find yourself upgrading possibly.
I dig basically neally everything... but the iron, even that sometimes especially when trying to clean out a glory hole.
