#71 Trip. A Local Playground.

A trip to one of the local playgrounds with my youngest produced a small mixed bag of items. We had buzzed this spot before so some of the hits were quite deep. Our first hit was a canadian small coin. Then an aussie 2 dollar goldie. A couple of 1 dollar nz goldies and an old 20 cent piece. The deal was that i get any jewels and you can have the coins. Seems to work well tho i came home a little empty handed this time, all good. 3 goldies, 5 coins all up.

Hi Shane, I have tried saying " if I get two of any coins you can have one" and anything else is finders keepers unless it is obviously their property. This has worked quite well for me so far and at least you go home with half the cash for your efforts and the land owner gets something for nothing.
Chris.

Great pic today by the way.

#72 Trip. The 50k round trip no.5

The rain has stopped so i made for my hunting spot after working near the area. Again i atempted to dig every signal except some of the iron ones. With the ace you have to dig every signal other than the obvious iron. A tiny blip could turn out to be something unexpected. I have buzzed over the main hot spots each time i go there to find more coins/treasures, just less each time as ive been to this small spot 5 times now. Best find was a cameo brooch/knecklace. They are carved from a type of seashell. The outer i would say is silver and to delicate to attemp restoring. Other finds were a 1935 shilling, a 1960 penny and a 1958 half penny.
3 goldies, 24 coins all up and a brooch.

#73 Trip. The 50k round trip no. 6

Back to the spot for the 6th time. I made this trip the day after #72 trip and havent managed to format it as yet. Again, i tried my best to dig every target. Went over tried and tested (and proven) hot spots to find more coins/treasures again. Time to move on from here, i can see further hunting grounds in the distance. A differant mix of finds this time and possibly my first war memorabilia in the form of a piece of a medal, and some type of badge which i somehow destroyed..
I will post a summary of all the finds at this spot later this week.
3 goldies, 16 coins all up.

#74 Trip. The local beach.

Went to Paihia the other day to check out Stockmans point which is at the far end of the main beach. This is where they used to load the cattle onto barges to take them out to the surrounding islands. A real neat piece of history mostly intact as i believe it was heaps longer. From here you can walk right around the shoreline to Te haumi and then there are walk tracks to Opua. There are plenty of small sand and rocky bits to buzz around along the way. Underground power cables play havic 200 meters around at the first beach. The earliest coin i found around here was a 1966 australian 2 cent piece.
I spoke to the kayak hire guy and he said that the main beach gets detected regularly.
11 GOLD sovereigns, 19 coins all up.

My 50k round trip spot later that day

Hit my 50k round trip spot later that day for a 1941 nz penny, a couple of late threepences and a small blackened by time .925 bracelet. Digging very tiny deep signals on the detector to find some of these.
8 coins all up and a small silver bracelet.

#76 Trip. Back to where i started

Went back to the first couple of beachs that i fossicked and had a good day finding coins. Didnt realise till i got home that i had found a WILLIAM IV 1835 SILVER SIXPENCE. Previously here i had found a 1895 sixpence. Very windy day with only surfers about. Alot of the coins were found lying on the surface as most of the sand had blown/washed to the southern end of the beach. I also found a nice piece of blackened lead with a nice shape to it.
A/ 10 goldies, an 1835 sixpence, 74 coins all up.
B/ 2 goldies, 1921 penny, 20 coins all up.

Well done. Easier than digging in the clay.

That date might take a bit of serious digging for you to find an earlier one.

I thought there used to be shielas on that beach, in another photo, or am I thinking of a different place?

Hi there gjj109. That date is hard to find and i have one earlier which is an 1834 sixpence. Other silvers are from 1851, 1867, 1882 and 1895. The eye candy on the beach was at a differant place, taupo bay.
