Best of luck job hunting Guardian. Its a tough world out there and jobs are few and far between. Impressive jar of goldies there and a tidy little sum indeed. I spent my couple of hundred on a holiday up north with the missus and now have about 40 bucks saved for my next venture. Work is not that forthcoming here for me so to boost things a bit i have had some small flyers made which i hand out as buisseness cards. They basically say;
Treasure Ace
Metal Detection
lost keys
Discover treasure in your back yard
Lost jewelry
General metal detection
Call Shane on .......
Tacky i know but they get the point across and make for great conversation as well. Will send anyone a copy so they can make ther own up if you P.M me your address.
Yes i edit my posts to and its a great feature on this forum which allows us to correct ourselves. Specially after posting with large amounts of beer in the system..

I was thinking of advertising those services myself. When I stopped into the jeweler to get an idea of the value of the ring I found he was saying a gentleman had come in earlier that day to buy a new wedding ring as he had lost one in the garden and had not been able to find it. So if you were able to find a friendly jeweler that might hand out your cards it would be a winner (although I am guessing most would rather sell new jewelery than have customers find their old stuff but you never know).

He told me of another story where a lost diamond ring was in the process of being paid out for by the insurance company when it turned up stuck in the tread of a gumboot - I checked my boots but no diamonds.

Hey guys

I watched a video the other day about a guy in the states who goes around finding wedding bands etc, watched him fish one from a lake!
Funny timing as I had just been talking to my old man about going to a close by lake and going for a snorkel, ran out of time unfortunately. Could be fun and I'll keep it on my to do list.

Apparently Dunedins unemployment rate is about 1% higher than any other city in NZ. It took me awhile to get it through my skull that I needed a job, especially in a place I didn't want to be. Detecting has helped a lot by forcing me out and learning my way around, making the place feel a bit more homely. Now it's time to knuckle down and bring in the moolah.

I import bitz and pieces to try and get a little extra income, been doing that for almost 8 years.
Usually bringing over items I'm interested in at the time. I've sold some strange stuff in the past, I think high end Italian bike seats would be at the top of the list but they sold, sold a heap of Laser sights for rifles and got a good return, now every man and his dog are importing and stuffed it. Getting very hard to find a product no one else has and hitting a target market.

Oh well better go do something like check the gumboots *8^)
If the weather holds I might try a high school tomorrow haven't been hunting at one yet!

One of the guys in Auckland has a deal with one of the insurance companies. They notify him if they have some jewellery to find and pay a percentage of what the claim would be worth. There have been times though when the ownser wasn't keen to see him

#59 trip. Down the line to hang out with Chrisyboy and his 250. We went to his hot new spot where he found the half crown, pulled up some pennys and a 1933 sixpense. We then hit a mainstream beach during the day, that was fun, a couple of hundred people, found an earing, a kids shovel and a couple of coins, very loose thick sand. A quick stint at a small beach on the way home produced some coins and a capgun (police 38), it was encrusted when i found it and my first thought was.. nup, its a capper.
So, got to see the mighty half crown while i was down there and that was worth the trip on its own. Swapped one of my silver rings with Chrisyboy for a cool drop pendant. The ace 250 is one excellant machine and picks up everything well. Performed heaps better than i thought being very close to the 350.

..pulled up some pennys and a 1933 sixpence

I like the heater Shane - great find - I can see that between some of you guys there will soon be an armoury of deadly shooters. I remember those ones that you found - one of my favourites but being a cowboy at heart my all time faovurite was an early replica of Wild Bill Hickocks Colt Navy...after I saw one of them everything else was second fiddle.
Great find - I love it...I think that if I had found that I might have removed the framed Scorpion and Tarantula from above my wifes spot in the bed and replaced them with the shooter so that she had to stare at it instead of the nasties which shes got used to!

Looks like you and Chris had a great time with your dual Garretts.
I still like using my 250.
Yeah that silver pendant is cool. Quite a unique design.

G'day,
I'd say the stone in the pendant is almost certainly a peridot. Could be glass, but if set in sterling and in that sort od setting, I'd go for peridot.

Cheers,
Rick.

Peridot?
I had not heard of that stone but when I looked here I found it has quite a history.
Very pretty stone. I would like to find one.
Thanks for the info Rick.
