Just ran a test with the 350 to check the target recovery speed. Checked out a vid on u tube to get some info. I think it was a gti v's the at pro. With that in mind i put 4 targets down on the ground from iron to ss ring and swiped over them. Picked them all up very quickly, was quite surprised. Then i discriminated out the first 3 notches and the iron went away. That is wot the jewelry setting is. I do note that out in the field when i strike a load of scrap the ace goes crazy so the recovery speed is excelant. One push of the mode button to jewelry setting and your back in buiseness without all the iron signals, dig the find/finds then back into all metal mode.
All metal mode. 5c 10c 20c and 50 cent are all around the foil/GOLD range so any form of discrimination could ultimately lead to missing out on a big find. I cant cant the amount of times that an odd signal has lead to a good find, (or a tonne of beer lids or ring pulls). Basically what im trying to say is that the target found is not always wot the machine says it is, so i dig them all, hence always hunt in all metal mode cos ya just never know.

Hi Shane
Hope I didn't get your back up I'm in no way doubting you have a great machine!
this is more what I was meaning, it's not really recovery speed as such but because of the length of the tone you can miss targets because the first target tone may hide the second target, I guess most Garretts are like this and obviously they have been doing very well for a long time. Remember I jumped from a Ace 250 to a AT Gold so I'm pretty out of touch with the other models. In my mind that's why I think the F2 is such a great buy.
this is from the At Pro Manual

All good guardian. I enjoy these recent posts as we can get down to the nitty gritty of it all. If we cant say what we want to say then it wouldnt be a forum. Your posts are fine and it prompts me to learn more of what we are talking about. Its been interesting to hear what others think of the aces and specially the 250. I have very recently heard of some excelant finds using such a machine and i guess we will see those finds soon.
I was chatting with Chrisyboy last night and we both agreed that we all seem to find the same amount of stuff regardless of machine type, the only diferance being the amount of time spent detecting. (In saying that, wot he found in 5 months with his lunchbox detector was amazing..).
So we are left to compare machines only by chat here on this forum. Be fantastic to have them all lined up and test them all but dont have that luxury unfortunately. Still it doesnt take long to paint a picture about the diferances in machines thru the posts and thats a good thing.

Thanks for that Shane, I don't like upsetting people and I word things a little directly at times - I blame it on being left handed! *8^)

This is a brilliant hobby and has so many levels to it. Its helped me learn a lot about the history of my new home town, its different locations, learning my way around and its beauty.
The chance to chew over different things and clear my head. Of course then there is the actual detecting, the thrill of a find, the meeting of different people, the list goes on...

I'd love to go hunting with other guys to see how they do it and I bet they dig more than I do and undoubtedly get more goodies.
Detector wise it's great getting the input of different people who have had there machines and learnt them. It takes a lot of time to learn a machine and lets face it we can't lean them all *8^)

Now i get it, you are both cack handed..
Hit the old time beach today. There is a lot of history there but where to look was the thing. The beach gave up no secretes so a swim was the best part of the day.

#56 trip. Time to move on from the site but not before i managed another 5 coins bringing the total to 280 coins all up. 5 coins.
#57 trip. Amazing what you can find in a playground. 2 goldies, 16 coins all up and a brotch. Found a live .22 bullet as well but i left it on the nearby fence and forgot to take it.
#58 trip. Out to the old beach for a great outing with my better half. 1 goldie and an old knife.

5 coins

Don't be a hater just because you're not in the club. *8^)

Shame about the finds today but still some interesting finds none the less and it looked like a nice place to be.

Had a quick go with the Ace 250 today, got to the park and it started to hail and then got cold real quick.
Noticed that the shafts are too loose and could definitely do with some tape or a hose clamp to stop the 'wiggle'
Standard coil is heavier but not uncomfortable and the machine really is pretty much bullet proof.
Found all the signals that the ATGOLD found (all shallow targets 4-6 inches) and pinpointing was very easy.
A few bottle caps and $3 in goldies not bad at all considering I've been over the area a few times before.
I also used some good quality earphones more bass, less treble and that made a big difference and it didn't get on my nerves like it used to. For a starter machine it's great but it made it very clear how much better having the numeric target ID is.

Well i kinda do belong to that club. As a young fella (still are) i was born cack handed. Took years to learn how to use a bat properly as i was all back to front. Dads a lefty so i guess i got part of it from him.
I notice too that the shaft seems a little loose at times,(the misses never complains..) not a biggy but it is obvious. Chrisyboy was saying that he found the headphones a little uncomfortable. Mine are fine for a while but after 2 or so hours ya head starts to twist and warp.. Buzzing the beachs i dont usually use the headphones which is a relief in itself. A second more comfortable set of hphones would be a worthwhile investment as long as they have a volume switch cos like we all know, the ding dinging needs to be toned right down to the quiet level then its not so piercing. On the beach without phones is when the ace comes into its own with easy audio id and any hit on the beach is neally worth digging because its a lot easier than diggin dirt.
Cheers for your P.M Metalkiwi. Muchly appreciated.

Hi Shane

I hear ya, I'm pretty much ambidextrous, my left hand is more co-ordinated but my right arm is stronger
made for some very interesting sparring.

I've got some noise cancelling ear phones that sit on the back of your neck (not as big as the earmuff style), I like good stuff when it comes to my sounds and I'm not the type of person to give Philips any credit but I have to say I got some $149 noise cancelling earphones with built in volume control from Harvey Norman at their boxing day sale for $25 and they are amazing when used with the Ace detector. Definitely not my favourite for music but I was VERY impressed with them for the detector, didn't use the noise cancelling, didn't need to. I haven't tried them with the ATGOLD as you can't plug in standard plugs you need an adapter because of the waterproofing.

The earphones that came with the machine aren't toooooo bad, I usually wear my beanie as it muffles the sound a little.
The only hassle is as soon as I stop and take off the earphones I realize how cold I am i.e yesterday in the hail I was fine then took off the earphones heard the wind, felt the cold and couldn't get back to the car quick enough.

Hopefully go for a hunt today.

Update!!! Not a happy camper the old man with his Ace 250 first coin EVER was a 1934 Shilling - as luck would have it I found one about 15 mins later, which was good coz I was starting to run out of things to mutter under my breathe.
Came out with $12 goldies 7 pennies, 1 half penny, 1x commonwealth half penny and 60c new usables, a sprig key and a wing nut *8^)

Happy Hunting!

Quite the oposite actually. Havent done to much buzzing of late. The places i want to go to are gettin further and further away sometimes so they take more planning. I really want to go to whangarei to hang out with Chrisyboy and his new 250 but thats an hour or so away and i wont come home for a couple of days. Hoping next week. Now i dont know bout everyone else but it takes me an hour to go thru EVERYONES posts and do my replys. So with that in mind i have to book my time on the computer so i can enjoy the read and take my time to do my posts properly.
It takes me half an an hour just to read Lammerlaws posts..
100 posts, GOLD Ingot, nice one Quardian.
Oh to find a silver shilling..
Hi there Poohbear. That brotch is an old find. The clasp looks oldish. This brotch may have been GOLD plated but its hard to tell as its worn out. Id say its brass with a GOLDY plate something on it, stones missing but its in reasonable condition for the age as it was found in the thick bark piled up under a slide/house/pole thing in an old playground. Most of the coins i found dated back 20/30 years ago.

Hi Shane
You will see that many of my posts have been edited, always seem to think of something after I've posted or thought bugger that will be taken the wrong way.

I realized today that if I hadn't have brought my detector when I did, I would now have nothing to show for it.
Always seems to be a bill to pay and I know if I didn't buy the detector then that money would have been lost forever.
The unfortunate thing is now my finds need to be used to pay the bills - oh well such is life and on the bright side I have my detector to find more with. Churned a lot of brain fuzz with the help of time alone with the detector so it has been a brilliant investment and kept me grounded (excuse the pun). So into the new year with a good start one Job application and one interview, so even if I don't get it the interview was an achievement in itself...

Anyways this is my coin bank currently at $351
Oh and my biggest ring to date, shame it's a crapper! - of course if I ever wanted to drown someone ganster style I'm sure it would hold them under!

Cheers MK

Interview went very well but just didn't get that vibe if you know what I mean, I was the first person they had interviewed and I heard the Store Manager say "I think he's great" as I was leaving, just not sure if the GM felt the same way.
So I had better do as much detecting as possible while I can *8^)

yes good luck with the prspect of a job there guardian....i got lucky i walked into the interview and 3 days later was working....and yes as it can happen that way you must keep detecting all you can befor you get that call..hahaha because the detecting dies off in a hurry when you dont have the free time to do it anymore..
Now i am down to just weekends instead of every day..lol..so not many post from me on my page at the moment..just alot of comments on others pages..

Yeah I guess when you're working you don't appreciate those little goldies as much. ( I know I didn't)
But when you haven't got a job it shows how hard you're willing to work to find them.

I really have enjoyed the metal detecting though and for so many different reasons.
