Hey guys found 3 1/2 silver coins today, along with 3 buttons. One is of "W.E Evans Waimate" another is an NZ Forces and the last a Lewis's of Liverpool. Evans owned a clothing shop to which i found reference in a 1919 Newspaper article so i guess thats kind of cool....

When does treasure become a burden? I just put my coin collection that I have detected on the scales. 15kg!!! And thats just pennys and old decimals, perhaps half of it is pennys so they must be worth a bit as scrap...
Added to that pile I have around half a kg of silver and maybe a grand in spendable coins which are long gone.
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

If you really want to short circuit your brain cells read this explanation for the origins of pennyweight...the penny of the time was made of silver so it all ties in

These two pennies shown below would weigh around a penny weight each.

The one on the left is King John 1199 - 1216 and is known as a 'Short Cross Penny' and th eone on the right is King henry III who reigned from 1247 - 1272 and is known as a 'Long Cross Penny'

Hi Matt - I havent got anything like that many but I have a few of them - 7 kgs of them would set a person back a pretty penny indeed - far, far more than the silver value - In England hoards of such coins have been found over the years and now more than ever are turning up - On Occasions hoards have turned up - a couple of them numbering in the tens of thousands of coins - I kid you not.

Your RSA badge is a cracker and may well be well prior to the World War Two era - the reason I say this is because I have only seen a couple of this type before - Sterling Silver - I have my grandfathers one here and he left the RSA back in the early days of its foundation after WWI - He was saddened that the loudest talkers and War exploit expounders were those who saw no real fighting but were behind the lines safe and sound - those who saw the real fighting liked each others company but talked little of the horrors and miseries...so your badge Matt is a very early one I think. It is not easy to see it but it appears a lot bigger than the later ones you see today and is one colour only, straight silver all over if I am not mistaken.
