That's a remarkable improvement, with not much to lose. Was cloudy ammonia the secret weapon?

Tonznz kindly invited me to go for a detect at one of his still new spots this afternoon.
Despite the very long grass, abundant trash and bad weather still got 6 silvers (oldest is 1878 sixpence)
and a silver gold combo pendant. The pendant has what may be rose gold at the centre.
Big thank you to Tony.

No amonia, I just boiled the coin to loosen the crust then rubbed a salt and baking powder paste on it. Any remaining black bits in the lettering etc. i picked out with a toothpick. Took maybe 10min to do but worth the effort. I dont reccomend this method for rare valuable coins but for coins like this one its certainly a good thing to do i feel.

Haha tell you what, either you or Roy ALMOST found it as there was a filled hole maybe 15cm away!! Good signal in mid 80's.
Mind you I have found a 4.7g nugget in a spot where I had waved my detector over a day before. I must have missed it by centimetres the first day.
On the second day it almost blew my ears off as it was right on the surface!
Anyway cheers for a good afternoon.

well the gold hunting turned to getting off the mountain before we got snowed in completely. Was only up there in teh creek for around an hour and got a half gram nugget and a 0.1g. Yesterday went detecting with tony and got a 1902 half crown and a few sixpences and threepences. Today got a NZ silver florin 2 sixpences and a british 3d. Sorry Im not putting up photos but the camera and this computer dont like eachother.

Recon that ammonite would be worth much? one of the rings is stamped 750 and is detected. the other ring looks gold but is not stamped, found it snorkelling!! The A pendant is 18K and was also detected on the same day as the earring and necklace. also got about 40 or 50 euro in change
