Hi Oroplata. Good old Kaiapoi. Thats where we lived as kids.
Coins turn up in all places, not just the hot spots. Try the most unobvious place, you never know. Pulled 55 coins yesterday from the middle of a lawn area. Wasnt expecting that many.

For sure. Those unlikely spots will surely hold some finds. Gridding helps to clear these areas.
Would like to test the two machines together to see the differance. Can you fly up for a day with yours. Wishful thinking.

Thanks gaurdian..i am happy with my pin/badge collection and now have 1 more to add to it..lol

Also in that pin/badge picture there is a button i found..i think it is lead...can anyone tell me what they might of used a heavy lead button on?..

I think it must be a real old button....it is second from the bottom in second last row.

Certainly was nice weather and my best ever coin day.

Dug an old victoria sixpence out of a hole (date yet to be determined) then covered the hole and then thought I'd better check it again and there was a different signal showing. So pulled all the soil out again and out came an 1889 half crown and an 1888 florin. Then another hole a foot away produced an 1872 florin. Those are pretty early coins for Christchurch.

Also, check that 1955 threepence, Chris. If it has 2 dots on shoulder, and is in fair condition it might be worth something even though it's not silver.

Badges are definately cool. The two at the bottom of the pic are vintage, made around the 50's. One a blood donor badge the other a Brownies Goldenhand badge. Only two ive found.

Shane

(Found at the site. 5 pieces of jewelry to 205 coins. Thats 1:41)

He's working for the council's parks dept. I saw him riding around hagley on a lawnmower, but it's got an extra contraption on the front that looks suspiciously like a metal detector and every once in a while he slows down and another contraption on the back digs a big deep plug out of the grass and plops it into the catcher.

Really makes a mess of the lawn, I don't think he'll keep the job long.
