Did a blog post on this the other day. I reckon on the beaches there is on average 800 pieces of gold for every 1 km of beach. Most people reading this go "Yeah Right" but think about it and work it out - 80-100 years of beach goers..... I hold to that figure. My blog post explaining my thoughts on this is here:

Of course getting to these riches is another matter entirely.

big mission last month,heaps of junk.
cant wait for summer.found a few nice pieces
about $44 in spendable starting to slow down

thanks had an awesome couple of days just detecting
bases of old trees popped up some of my best finds
1900 treepence,1937 treepence,1910 penny,
assorted coins,chunky silver ring,found a cat charm
cant read stamp gold maybe,silver tiki etc.
