Poohbear was in Chch today, so caught up with him, Chrispy and expat for a hunt. Great to catch up again Chris.
Ended the day on four silvers including a nice big juicy 1933 NZ florin and a very sharp 1881 Brit sixpence.
Best scores of the day tho, would have to be the great little artillery button, and the 1919 Victory medallion still with its original chain and clip....never seen a complete one before, not even in medal/medallion publications.
This medallion had about five different variations in manufacture and all are rated either R4 (scarce) or R5 (rare). Mine is R4.
Awesome to find a couple of WW1 relics....especially on ANZAC day!
HH and GL all.

Cheers mate. Compared to what it was like a couple of years back....yes, it is hunted out. You just need to work a bit harder and think outside the square a bit more. Sometimes, taking the difficult option (detecting a steep bank for example) holds all the rewards coz those who hit the same spot before you, chose the easy path ( the flat grass above or below the bank)...so to speak.

I should have some answers next week for you about that bottle of yours too. I'll PM you once I know.

No real secret spots here at all mate.
Ive found that it's just dedicated 'coil to the soil" time. Get out and hunt every spare moment you can, even if it's just for a half hour.
Getting to know your machine inside out is key. Think outside the square about where and why you hunt where you hunt, and add a good chunk of research into the mix....the finds will come!

What an awesome find Number 8, both in great condition. Amazing how all the WWI finds are surfacing of late. I guess they all just want to be found to remember the past.

Hi all,
Just a highlights round up from the last three hunts including a very nice 1848 copper penny from today's hunt with foiled again and coinnut.....cheers guys, very enjoyable.

Also in the highlights were;

A double tailed lion livery button.
A small brass thimble.
A disk with the number "7".
An early NZ military button....and....
A very nice WW2 Royal NZ Armoured Corps badge.

GL and HH all.

Edited by user Monday, 5 May 2014 6:03:28 PM(UTC)  | Reason: Pennies were copper pre 1860, not bronze. Bronze post 1860.

Another nice collection of juice there #8, as mentioned before I would be more than happy to look after a piece or two if you are running out of room up there lol.
Golden roundness! yeah I think I'd be keen on some of that. That awesome Sov kiwijim found on the beach was an unbelievable find.
Who is going to be next I wonder? Keep up the good work Iggy.

Yeah, cheers mate. Been hunting a couple of spots lately where flood water from the river has washed away part of a bank and removed a layer of soil from the surrounding flat ground. Found it to be quite productive.
Kiwijim's sovereign at the beach was quite a find indeed. Just goes to show......anywhere, anytime, any place!
Good luck out there mate. Hope to catch up with you one day for a hunt too.

You obviously do your homework, think outside the box and put in the hours so good on ya. I am trying to dig more of those 'probably another pull tab' signals at the moment. It is quite amazing how often you are semi sure of a target only to dig up something totally the opposite to what you thought.

Definitely be keen to catch up sometime.

Geez man, that's in great nic......well done.
Yeah, I had the same kinda heart stopping moment when I dug the Transvaal war medallion a couple of weeks back.
It was a night hunt. I got a good solid 72 at 7 inches on the T2 se. Thought to myself, "it must be a pretty ok target to be as solid and deep as that" As I turned the plug over, what did I see gleaming back at me through the artificial headlamp light? ........ GOLDEN roundness (Queen's head up) staring back at me! Well, you can guess what I was thinking....blood pumping, addrenlin racing!.... Was even preparing to do the GOLD dance in'all.........kinda gutted but also stoked as my number one passion is finding anything related to NZ Military history.

I heard someone say the other day......Detecting is kinda like having Christmas every day.....unwrapping cool little presents......you never know whether it's gonna be that special toy you always wanted.............or just another nanna pack of socks and hankies!
