you can get them from dick smith cheap as about 150 bucks they give a really good picture and can set it to video or take pictures, they take photos at night too ,very handy you will find out whos been on your claim its a cheap way to protect your gear too if u leave your dredge at your claim so if anything goes missing u can take it strait to the police and when u get there photo you know exactly what they look like,nz is a small place post there photos up on paydirt

If I remember I shall ask my son for the site from where some really cheap motion activated security cameras can be accessed - I looked at them and immediately told him to get me a dozen of them as they are extremely small, easily hidden and can run off a very small solar panel.

I would n ot buy them in NZ though. My son has been importing electronic gear form China and I have been totally blown away by the cheapness of what costs a lot of money here - I got a home security outfit which is far far superior to my existing one - my existing one cost $800 twenty five or so years ago and yet its replacement has three times as many accessories and is wireless, totally efficient and cost landed $138.

I have a wireless home security camera setup as well, it was not as inexpensive as yours Lammerlaw, I got it at Dick Smiths. Not the greatest setup in the world, but it works and gives some peace of mind when I am away on holiday etc. The nice part about the wireless is that even if someone sees the camera, they have no idea where the digital recorder is, and it is easy to hide not being much larger than an i phone.

I hope those attending the weekend get-together bring all their gadgets along for others to have a look at
I’ve been looking at getting a couple of those camera’s for quite some time , but it seems with everything now a days, the options are endless
It would be great to get a recommendation on which is a good model from a member already using them
They would even be handy set up around your vehicle when away up the creek.
It would be very helpfull to get that Web site Lammerlaw

I just asked my son where he is getting the stuff from and apparently it is e-bay. I do know that the home security system he got for me at home here is really cracker - when it arrived some lowlife had slammed a screwdriver though the package and damaged the transformer thing that plugs into the wall adapter and within a week another one was in the letterbox.

When he got me looking at motion sensor detectors for up at my place we were looking at $12 ones but when I asked him just now to mail me the security system he is looking at he sent this - dont be put off by the price - we are finding that some of this stuff is really quite remarkable for the price and some of the items he has got can be purchased here in Kiwiland but cost many times more - same product.

Hi Orewa
Yep, sure is
Not sure what accomodation is left, you will need to contact the camping ground or check out the Lawrence website for other options
There should be a few camping sites left

Hey Cluthapete,

It's getting closer to the meetup, I've taken a weeks leave from work to go fossicking and am really looking forward to the meetup. Just one question though, is it worth me taking my pump and high banker set up? Otherwise I will just take my river sluice and pans.

http://youtu.be/W94lEaTSrKg

That is a clip of the high banker in recycling mode or I can just pump staight from a stream or river. So is there somewhere you have in mind where I can run this setup?

Cheers, Cleggie.

Hi Cleggie
Yep, there will be enough water to run your highbanker, Just depends whether you have enough room in your vehicle to lug it around all week

Hi everyone
The Get-Together is this weekend, so I hope those attending have their tall tales, exaggerations, and little white lies all worked out to keep us amused.
A rough guide to the weekend is as follows
Fri night- 7pm - Everyone meet at the Camping Ground Hall for introductions and to listen to the guest speaker detailing the history of the Gold Rush period in Lawrence
Sat Morning- 8.30 am Head out to the 1st location till about noon then back to the camping ground for a Barbie lunch
After lunch , head out to another location till when ever.
I had planned on having a Surf & Turf for the Sat night meal, but unfortunately the cook I had lined up became ill and had to pull out.
That leaves us with either the Pub, bulk order of the local Fish & chips, or fend for yourselves. We will sort that out on Fri night.
Sunday morning - visit the Museum and they are also going to open the Vintage Car and machinery Museum for us as well
Nothing planned for Sunday arvo yet as some of you may want to play tourists and explore the surrounding area, some of you may want to prospect at likely looking spots you passed on your trip to Lawrence, and those left can go fossick at another local location.

Don't forget to bring your favourite gadgets and any other objects or samples that we may be interested in looking at.
Cheers everyone
I look forward to meeting you all.
peter

Those travelling to Lawrence for the weekend who would like a more scenic alternate route try these.
From Central – Turn off at the Roxburgh Dam – Cross the Dam wall and follow your nose and you will end up on the Millennium Track and come out at Beaumont
You should see the dredge parked up. Once on the Millennium Track, stop off at the Lonely Graves.
The Millennium Track is just that, a track, but should be OK even for 2wd – Turn left once you hit the main road again and it’s about 20km to Lawrence

From Dunedin – About 20km south of Dunedin, hang a right and head towards the airport and then look for sign posts to Wapori or Lake Mahinerangi
Once you hit the tops and just past Mahinerangi Rd , hang a left into Mitchells Flat Rd
Look out for the old stamping battery a couple of hundred meters down that road on your right
Keep following your nose and you will come out at Waituhuna . Turn right when you hit the main road

From the south – 5 km north of Balclutha, take the road that veers to the left . It may say Hillend, and follow your nose.
Just before you think you are going to get chopped to bits by the wind turbines, stop and have a look behind you.
You can see right down to the coast to the Nuggets, over to your right will be Gore and over to your left Dunedin
It’s the best view you will get of the district without being in a plane.
Just after you pass the wind turbines and heading down hill you get a great view of the Waituhuna gully and you can visualise where the rivers of gold once flowed.
Or maybe still do.
