Well a break in the weather yesterday enable me to get a hunt in for a couple of hours. Joined by chrispy and met snowdrop (not detecting-nice to meet you!)
Had what I call a bloody great day as I was not expecting much from this place (although it surprises constantly!).
Scored a really nice 1880 Gothic florin, a beaut silver badge )no solid-two halves joined-nice engraving too.and together in a hole a 1876 2 Pfennig and a 1877 quarter Rupee! Crazy!
Kicking this all off was a 1891 threepence and a few musket balls. Oh, and a cool square nail, I guess used in boats, perhaps dragging cargo in the old days.
Oh, and a large ring which I think is silver, and is gold plated on the ring itself with silver rope style decoration.
All in all great result! Keep at it peeps!

Lol yea mickey it takes a bit of decoding. Some of the Roman numerals can be hard to suss but I just pretty much look at the last 3, in this case xxx so reckoned that equals 30 plus the others usually add up to 1850 =1880.
I had one with a roman v (5) and they totally looks like a b!!
Now I've got a 1880 half crown and florin I'll have to check my smaller denominations and see if I can get an old set!

Terribly cold weather at night but I had a hot cup of concrete and ventured out to meet up with number8.
The pics from last two hunts.
Rather stoked to get a (worn) 1902 sixpence from the first dig! Added a 1937 3d, coupla mail tag seals and what I'm sure is a GOLD chain (thin). Looks a bit tarnished but with a wipe goes shiny, so I'm callinng it 2.2 grams of GOLDNESS.
Last night again hard yakka in the cold (like ice on the coil) and mud for a definite 1.5 gram 9ct GOLD name badge. Lucky "Kevin" having a GOLD name badge...
Added 4 thrupps to the treasure chest including a 1877 from not too deep.

Went out for a lil night mish with the dog last night and had a few good finds. Very first target was the brit shilling-love it when that happens!
Scored a couple of other silvers and an old Heaton halfpenny.
A coupla hunts ago I found a super cool Coronation medalette in silver-quite a thick thing but small overall. Couldnt find any pictures of this thing online-may be reasonably rare as it the original (but not correct) coronation date on it. Possibly NZ made? Anyone know?
Oh, and the cool Royal Artillery button-love it!

Mate, Love that little medalette. I'll have a squizz in me NZ medalette book when I get home tonight, and let you know later on when we catch up. I'd love to see it. Can you bring it with you?

Out for another hunt last night-met up with Number 8 who gave me some awesome info on the little silver Coronation medalette-turns out to be quite rare (possibly only 4-10 known) and reasonably valuable-wicked! Cheers mate!
Couple of awesome finds included a 1878 shilling and a scarce 1818 shilling. Sweet!
Also a top find is a 1912 New Zealand Signal Corps badge made by J.R Gault-love it!
Gotta love metal detecting!!
On the lookout as usual for GOLD tonight....!

Out again last night after being so excited with recent finds.
Has a wander with the dog through an area that has previously turned up gold coins, gold/silver rings, old silver coins from all over the world, and numerous military bits n bobs...

I'm stunned and speechless with last nights effort.....

Well had a better next two hunts after that disaster "1c hunt'!

Caught Number8 for a bit over an hour hunt and quickly unearthed 5 nice clean silvers, and the 2 clean pennies-the 1870 is a bit rarer. Both seen some use though. Also, here's one for the sleuths...found a possible washer but it has the old time look and has no. 54 stamped on it. Is it an old token for tram ride, or simply a washer?!

2 hours hunt with coinnut yesdy gave up 4 silvers altho poorer condition from this locale.
