That's pretty freaky. On the same day poohbear gets a 1933 halfcrown, chrispy a 1934 halfcrown, and I pulled out a 1935 halfcrown from Darfield Domain.

I got there around 2, found an old 20c under the trees on my first swing, walked across the other side of the carpark after a minute and before even getting to the actual field got a good signal and dug the half crown from under the stony ground beneath the grass. Was the cleanest condition silver coin I've ever pulled. No discolouring at all. Found a couple of 1943 pennies within a few metres of it.

Thought to myself "this is looking good" and then in the next 2-3 hours got nothing else except bloody 1 and 2c pieces! I probably got the only silver coin left there. Grrrrrr.

Check out the size of the stones laid over the top.

Only about 3-4 inches down - an inch of grass/soil above the stones and the coin an inch below them.

Now hold on there Poohbear, I didn't say there was nothing at Hagley I said I never find anything at Hagley. As I explained there is some bad voodoo going on. The first few times I went there I did pretty well, pocket full of silvers, gold ring etc but since then I have found less and less. As you may recall the other night I found a half dozen 1 and 2 cent coins and nothing else. I have done better than that in the back yard. So I can take a hint, if the treasure gods do not want me at Hagley I will go somewhere else. Damn nice looking half crown by the way.

Thanks. Usually I end up with the coin out of the hole in the sod, but because of the big stones, the digging technique was different and it revealed itself while still in the spot. When I saw "ROWN" on the coin I thought, hey that's worth taking a photo of!

Well went out for our hunt after our club meeting, was good to see gavin along again....But you missed the big find gavin..lol....

I found this thing that looks like a pocket watch but smaller...when i dug it out i gave it a shake and there was something in it,,then i realized it was
a souvern holder,,i got excited ....i opened it up as andrew (oroplata) was coming over to see what i had..sure enough there was coins in it and we both got excited as they had a gold tinge to them in the dark....

But alas they were silvers and not gold as we first thought.....but still a very exciting find,,,the hinge on the case still works fine

The dates on the silvers are 1915 shilling and 1916 sixpence...both brit and both in good shape..

That would have been nice DB, to see it opened on film. Unfortunately Chris found it on one of our 'after the club meet' night time hunts so it was probably a bit too dark. If you could have seen his face after finding it you'd realise why there was absolutely no chance of him waiting till daylight to open it.

Fantastic find even without sovereigns.

My greatest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my collection for what I told her it cost me.

Yeah...lol.....I'll second that. It was like watching a kid open his presents on Christmas morning! Although to be fair, I don't think any of us who were there, would have wanted Chris to wait either.
