Wow, that is quite a find. I think I have identified it, not 100% sure though, what do you think?

Belong to Ming the Merciless--Emperor of Planet Mongo?

Ok was out with chrispy today to the grones...Didnt find much othere than alot of 1 and 2 cent pieces and a few bucks spendy...then just befor we were going to leave i found this coin...
I got very excited about it because i thought it was the oldest coin i had found with a date on it of 1809 -1817...and when i turned it over it said $1 united states of america...with statue of liberty on it..i thought that was odd but the date was right there infront of me....Then chrispy walks over and when i showed it to him he says " did you read the rim".....well bugger me it says In God We Trust 2007 D.....LMAO talk about bursting your bubble...hahahaha

But on the up side acording to this link they were only making these for a few weeks then selling them for a short time.. so they may become colectables..

Here is the Important note from the site: James Madison is the fourth of our presidents to be honored on this new dollar series from the United States Mint. Each Presidential Dollar will only be minted for a few weeks, then be available for a short period thereafter, before the next one in the series is released and the previous one is discontinued.

Important Note! Each Presidential Dollar will be minted for a very limited time and will be made available for only about 13 weeks during its year of issue. This limited window of opportunity seems almost intentionally designed to make them difficult to collect

Nice coin Chris. I'm guessing it's pretty unlikely another one of those will be dug anytime soon in Chch.....well done.
Sorry I couldn't join you guys today but with the limited time I had available, I had to stay local...........next time maybe.

Chris, the link I posted above appears to have been broken by the forum software. You'll need to cut and paste the whole line into the browser bar to see the correct page on wikipedia.

As you can see from that page 172,340,000 of those coins were produced and most would have been put into circulation. The price on that website would be for uncirculated coins still in their cardboard rolls.

You will also see on that page that the numbers of coins produced dropped off sharply as the USG discovered that people there STILL don't like using $1 coins and continue to prefer tatty bank notes - probably all circulating regularly through strip clubs. :) So the coins of the later presidents will be worth more.

Well after a 2 month drought from detecting i went out with robert for a few hours today...and true to my Legion
i found me a silver ring...but the shape and design of it i would say it is a toe ring with a little bit of weight..
and a red jewel in it which i think is glass..

Was great to get out hunting again..and to find my 36th silve ring.

also between the two of us we found 27 bucks spendy's..lol

Well, given that you find sovereigns with a dredge, I'm tempted to come along to watch you pull a 2oz nugget out of hagley.

But I'm moving house so won't be able to. :(

Just moving locally. Landlord sold the house. :(

Major bummer. I've filled a 20ft storage container with stuff out of the garage and it still looks full. :(
