NZPB, I am pretty sure those things are off an alien space craft. Sure you have not been detecting around area 51?

Could be; I assume every UFO (unidentified found object) is a piece of alien spacecraft until proven otherwise.

My workmate works on old cars ...

He thinks it might be the end of a pedal off an old Austin A7

Apparently, they had very small round bits on the end of the brake & accelarator pedals.

Might of been off my oldest brother's A7. It broke down all over CHCH and once the passenger seat fell through the floor.

No sov's this trip. Im sure they are there, somewhere.
Found some pennys and a few silvers. This one beach stretch that i often do a quick buzz over, of about 2-3 meters, produces old silvers and pennys everytime i hit it. This time i hit two threepences down real deep on a week signal. These coins cant go anywhere as there hard up against an old time cement/stone boat ramp that runs thru the middle of the beach. Found one of my 1834's here. Bound to be more. A front end loader comes to mind... then id reach more coins.

Not sure about the front end loader but a digger could be good. Just think several detectorists could sit in a circle around the digger drinking beer or something and the digger could pass you a bucket load of sand to detect at your lesiure. :-) What do ya reckon? Civilized detecting?

Absolutely brilliant idea.
Or im thinking of digging a 1m trench at a time with the shovel, 3/4 foot deep, then buzz along them. A shallow trench may just be the trick to reach all the goodies properly.

Sounds like a great place to take a dredge to test it out :)

Hi Chris,
Trust me- you do not want all day Beach Hunt.
just want to share my 8 Hour Hunt in summer at the beach:

So i decided to come for low tide 1 hour before in early morning.
so all went well and 2 hour hunt on flat low tide mark was fine.

then i start moving into wet sand and eventually onto dry sand. after about 4 hour i started to get tired as it was really hard to move in dry sand.
after 6 hours i was really tired. even that i had breaks, food and water.

I am 28 and i consider myself very fit. but 8 hours of metal detecting in sand made really exausted... :-(

That was a test to see if it would be possible to make a living during summer just by metal detecting...

To be honest, i rather jsut do 3-4 hours at the beach maximum :-)

DrunkBrother,

Oh I think you are underestimating Poohbears athletic ability; why I once saw him eat an entire kg of bacon! Ok so I might have eaten half, but still it takes quite a bit of exercise to build up an appetite for that much pig fat. Yeah I would put money on Poohbear lasting 8 hours in the sand just because he is such a detecting addict if nothing else. Poohbear are you up for the challenge?
